Connect opened external hard drive to a laptop?

My Maxtor hard drive packed in today after one of the kids decided to play bounce with it. It is still powering up and from a bit of googling I'm hoping that I can connect it directly to my laptop with some sort of USB to *** cable (while using the original power supply). Is it possible to get such a cable for the connector shown in these pics (sorry for the poor quality).

Thats an IDE cable, you need an IDE-USB adapter !
