I'm with Ulster Bank, and have had next to no issues with them. Apart from when myself and herself were looking for a mortgage, the guy we were talking to was more than useless, didn't take any figures from us, basically didn't want our business, and started blethering on about how he bought his house at the height of the boom, and was paying about 5 times as much as what we were looking for, for a similar house.

AIB however, was more than happy to have us in, sat us down, talked about our options, ran the figures with us. And due to an issue with the sale, they have pushed back the mortgage drawdown date by 6 months for us, meaning we keep our original rate.

BoI pretty much laughed at us, and told us to come back next year.

Was thinking about changing current account to Halifax when they fecked off.

So...yeah. Don't do much with the Credit Union really, I find the lack of ATM or online facilities to be a pain. Having said that, I haven't been INSIDE a bank in about 6 months.

NIB and no issues at all with them. Think their online banking is great esp when I compare it to my partners AIB online banking.

PTSB, offered me interest on current a/c, was able setup savings account online then with decent interest rate, online banking works well, their people on phone tend be very helpful and polite. I dont have substantial savings, but for my age id be one of better savers, and i feel bit more rewarded than i ever did with aib or boi.

    ^ This

I've had accounts in the past with aib, boi, and nib -wasnt happy with any of them. Have an account with PTSB for a few years now, and I'm much happier with them. Im not bombared with BS post from them, and they've helpful, friendly staff.

Have been with BOI since I was about 16 but I opened up a new account with PTSB recently and they are much better. I'm closing my BOI account soon and switching fully to PTSB. BOI are robbing bastards. Their charges are astronomical and the staff aren't as helpful as PTSB.

I have 2 bank accounts - a BOI one which I got when I first went to college. They were basically giving out cards on campus one day and I just picked one up. I also have an Ulster Bank account 'cause I wanted a Visa debit card.

BOI and AIB have cost us billions and yet people still bank with them!
I moved to PTSB and Rabo a few years ago. Much better banks to deal with.

Was with BOI as a young lad, reached twenty, hadn't used my account in 3 months, needed to lodge a few hundred in for safekeeping and they told me they closed my account. I asked why, your one said with a sniffle, "You are economically unviable" I f'd and blinded in their branch for ten minutes and stormed out the door. This was 98, Moved to PTSB and am greeted weekly with a friendly smile. They know what I want, do it for me and chat about all things and have a bit of crack with them.

Then about 2005 got a letter from BOI saying that they overcharged me 87 cents and here is the cheque and we miss your business. I cashed that cheque in to my ptsb account and had a laugh with the woman in PTSB when I told her about my treatment from them.

Moved from BoI to PTSB around 2 years ago. Amazing difference, a bank that actually treats you like a customer and not some sort of annoyance who is disturbing their very important existence.

I'm with them as well for the last few years and no real problems. Now though, they are writing to their customers to say the won't handle cash transactions in branches anymore. Excuse me but WTF is a bank for?

It doesn't really bother me but I can understand why it might be annoying for some. I rarely have to withdraw or lodge cash and you'll be able to do that in the post office.

PTSB is my bank, car insurance, wages etc all goes through there and I've never had any problems.

I have accounts with every bank though, they were giving out free stuff during freshers week last year :o

AIB since November 1997, never felt any need to change so still there. Haven't had any problems either.

Switched from BOI to Ulster earlier this year for the sole purpose of obtaining a Visa debit card. Seriously, the banks here need to follow Ulster and now PTSB and lose that useless laser card.

Don't they say you're more likely to change spouse than bank?

so its pretty much a draw.
Was talking to the old man about the drama about the bonuses being given out at aib,he said he was going to move all his moola from aib to ulster this week.

Why do so many people stay with boi&aib?
