Well, I called it 'squares' but I forgot the name of it and asked a youngster so evidently it's still played!!

Kick the can, hopscotch with a shoe polish tin as the erm....'pog' ? Can't remember what we called it! Conkers, connect 4, operation, etch-a-sketch, skipping, roller skates, CB radio, pirate radio. Ra-ra skirts, Simon Hart shoes, Ritz, The Iveigh Rooms, Blooms, West Coast Cooler, The Grove.

Frizbees, swingball, amassing hugely dangerous and unsupervised bonfires, saying 'help the Haloween party' instead of 'trick or treat' .

Going places on your own on the bus at 11, 12 or 13. Playing out all day and sometimes the night with no-one batting an eyelid.

Getting battered and laughing about it instead of ringing childline. Potato cakes. Wagon wheels and chipsticks.

Leif Garrett, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Noel Edmonds swopshop. Play School, Why-Dont-You and Rent-A-ghost....
