Not proud of it like, but i was Lying on my back, caked in my own faeces, my own vomit running down my shirt and an empty bottle lying beside me.

Then my mam picked me up, changed my nappy and baby grow (God bless her!)

    I was only 2

I was in my first year in secondry school at the time.

I was on my way to Geography class when I noticed some of the older lads crowded round a newspaper.

Some of them looked genuinely shocked.

I knew something pretty heavy happend there & then.

At the time, I didn't know that much about John Lennon or the Beatles.

I found out pretty quickly though, what with all his music getting round the clock airplay in the aftermath...

Been a big fan ever since.:)

30 years ago, eh? Time flies....

Totally read the thread as Jack Lemon, and I've only now discovered that he died 9 years. Nobody told me!

Anyway, I wasn't born yet when John Lennon was dead. I was an angel baby in heaven.

    30 years tomorrow.

I was only a kid in school at the time but I remember my father being very upset that day as he was a Beatles maniac. They says its the "JFK moment" of the music world so where you on the 8-12-80?

The internet is for young people op. Who let you use it?

I was more than likely at home in bed. I didn't have much of a social life at the time. I was four years old.

If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.

    You win! :p

I was in Amsterdam staying with my sister getting ready to head home to Dublin via Hook of Hollond-Dover-London -Holyhead ( No Ryanair back then ) when at about 8 am the local Dutch radio kept playing Beatle /Lennon music which we though a bit strange but not understanding much dutch we switched over to BBC world service to hear what had taken place in NYC the previous hrs. I remember the long trip back with everybody glued to the red tops in disbelief ( I still have orriginal front page of daily mirror ) .

Even 48 hrs later it was still hard to take in and I remember a candle lit vigil was held at christ church cathedral by about 1000 people ,some with guitars singing beatle tunes , which I went along to . The Irony for me was that about 12 months earlier on a quiet street in Amsterdam , I had met with and got the autograph of Ringo Starr . I wasn't around to remember JFKS assassination but Lennons death was one of those were were you moements

There was a rather sad mention in Phillip Norman's biography of the Beatles.

Aunt Mimi got an early morning call from New York. She was imagining another journalist asking for a quote about John's latest adventure "I wonder what he's done this time" she thought as she took the call.
