My postman is cool, he cleverly conceals my parcels under my doormat and locks the porch. Only once did I have to go and collect from the collection place (which is right across the road)

My post man is forever cramming my packages into the slot and leaving them half hanging out. I live in an apartment block and anyone walking past could pull them back out. Then it'd be bye bye to my make up deliveries!!!!

Yeah, thats annoying, if he was any good he would take it back to the depot with him and leave a delivery note. Maybe knock twice just to check if you were there.

So I've been waiting on a delivery from An Post since Friday. I took the day off work today to receive delivery and got up early. I went upstairs to sort some clothes out at about 11:20am and came down at 11:45am to find that An Post had attempted delivery at 11:30am.

I immediately rang them and a kind lady in Customer Support rang the driver. Apparently he had knocked on the door 3 times, seen the curtains were closed and then put the notice in the door. The driver does not believe in doorbells for some reason.

So... I've to wait another day for my delivery (which cost me 30 Euro) and will have to get a taxi to the collection depot myself which will probably cost me another 30 Euro or more.

An Post drivers are overpaid, useless idiotic *****.

    Great news:)

only thing i hate is them not delivering in the snow and the fact that when they cant bring the post, they bring it further away back to the depot instead of the local post office. -_-
but snow is usually once or twice yearly and they usually try redeliever when the snow has passed.

Know we don't get snow often, but do they not deliver during the snow? can't recall from last year.

Our village shop takes all the package that can't be delivered. Dead handy.

That's very good of them but this really shouldn't be happening, An Post should really be better equipped to deal with the slight, impossible-as-it-may-be chance that someone will at work and unable to recieve their package.

Yeah. They never can find a buyer for my "toys" though so at least I always get them back.

Well, course they could leave a note and have me pick the item up. In another county, in a building that's only open while I work...
I much prefer the shopkeeper holding stuff. It's something I think any small community should look into.

Hate them! Fecked up my graduation photos.. When delivered the packaging was wet, torn and photos affected..

So lets recap, you took a day off to get a parcel, I assume the post would come within a certain time frame every day so therefore you would have an idea what time he would be delivering at. So you went upstairs within that time frame sorting clothes. Which wasn't what you took the day off for. While the reason you took the day off was knocking on the door. And its all the postmans fault. Fascinating.

Just for the record, I have no doorbell, and it is a very rare thing for me to miss someone knocking on my door. I knock on most doors because you can never tell if the doorbell works, and would you believe, my friends let me in. When they hear the knocking on the door.

I was going to delete the first paragraph, but I agree with that too!!! I too don't have a doorbell, the other day, a knock on the door, went downstairs, postman with a package, a couple of dvds, I think.

I normally get packages delivered by van, no probs there, or go to the depot, they're open early and late....

    a good service all round...

If anyone was lacking common sense, it certainly wasn't the postie.

He didnt ring the bloody doorbell!
And I tend to knock on doors when I go to see people because half the houses I go to the bloody bell doesn't work.

Then you are probably stupid enough to be a postman, cos that is absolutely ridiculous.

If he rang the bell and it didnt work then fair enough it was the OPs fault for being upstairs and not hearing the knock. Not ringing the bell at all though is the postman lacking simple common sense/logic. Extremely annoying.

Hate An Post. Collection depots that only open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday and post offices which close for lunch between 12:45 and 14:15... an hour and a half! Clearly a brilliant and customer focused irish organisation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,402 ✭✭✭nxbyveromdwjpg

Yes, I reckon the OP's assumption being that they wouldn't have to literally wait staring out the window all day as the postman wouldnt be so incompetent as to not bother pressing the large button which notifies the people inside the house that theres someone at the door. Simple stuff really. Or so most people would think.

I thought the Postman always rang twice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭JOSman

    Sorry guys couldn't resist it.

I had a postman for years with no problems what so ever he was quiet but very efficient. In the last two years we've had two newer postmen with nothing but wrong mail, not even the same county. I'm the last house in the estate, so dump the wrong ones on me.

Do they lack sheer common sense?? Why would I not be at home to receive a package... could I conceivably be...shock horror, at work? And how convenient... the depot is only open the exact same hours I work. Handy that.

that'd be the same common sense that you're lacking, ever think that An Post wokr those hours too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭gerbear1

Why didn't you use your work address? I used to do that, never missed a package!

Our postman is dead on,our post man before him was the same. So much so that if you werent home,or you were putting on pants and were unable to answer the door he would either leave the package inside for you or to one of the neighbours should the door be locked.

lol, kettle calling the pot black! .... by your logic no business would open outside 9 - 5 right? How about supermarkets... they need customers and yet they open late..why? Becuase people who pay for goods and services do so with money which they got from working 9-5!

We dont expect posties to come delivering items til 10pm but it would only be common sense for the depot to be open til that time so we can actually get what we order. Funnily if we had been at home to get the delivery during the day we would be jobless and hence not buying goods from the net hence an post would have very little need for a lot of the work force seeing as it would pretty much be only bills being delivered.

I work in a consumer facing job and I work out of normal hours for some weeks, its only normal. Dont feel resentment for it sure; I myself use businesses that open out of normal hours when I not in work , turn around is only fair play

My own postie is a bad joke. On more than one occasion I have checked online order numbers to find "delivery attempt - no answer".. post box was empty with no delivery notice.... what? Did he expect me to read his f**king mind and have my "parcel sense tingle!" to run to the depot????
No explination from the depot other than he must have been out of slips?? So basically "tough s**t" be happy you got it in the end...... an post... class act, they should be proud of the fine job their doing.

no post here yesterday or today. there's hardly even any snow on the ground! :(

Would it not make more sense to leave parcels for collection at the nearest post office rather than some "depot" in the @r$€; end of nowhere.

As for sending packages to work/family/friends etc a lot of mail order companies will only ship to the address ones credit card is registered to.
