I fell on my arse and slid a good bit down a hill this morning - I wouldn't blame anyone for pissing themselves if they saw me (thank god it was early :o). I certainly did. :)
If you fall after a slip on the ice, you get a bruise. If an old person falls after a slip on the ice, they have a good chance of damaging their hip. IE: they may not be able to get up, never mind walk again. If you see an old person fall, go help them out.

kids crossing road in front of oncoming cars and not caring that the car might not be able to stop in time....
Seen kids running on the road, and sliding: thus knowing that the road is slippery, then walk in front of the cars. Erm... possible Darwin award?

Plenty of people being very selfish when shovelling the snow off their driveways and paths outside.

Guy on my road has a couple of kids in wheelchairs so has a ramp at his door going across the front on his house. Theres a lane at the side of the house thats got a fairly high flow of people walking. He was clearing the ramp and just lobbing the snow over the wall on to the path. Whats happened now is that when its dark theres a pile of hard ice a foot or so high thats invisible because of the darkness on the path at the top of a mild slope.

It's very much "once it's off my property I dont care".

There was a few people out on the main road clearing the driveways and paths and lobbing all the snow out on to the road making it really icey.

    EDIT

why is it necessary for idiots to clear the pavement outside their houses and dump all the snow in big piles onto the road? sometimes i worry about the stupidity of some people.

:) I should read all the posts before posting

There was a segment on the RTE 9 O'Clock news earlier talking about the increase in the number of people ending up in casualty due to sprains & breakages from slipping on icy footpaths.

As the news reporter was speaking, they showed a clip of a guy hopping up the steps of a hospital clinic on one leg, obviously in some pain.

Cue him reaching the door, then slipping all over the place & holding onto the door to prevent himself from falling again!

Those RTE camera men are feckin gas!

You can watch it here; http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1086312

Fast forward to 17.10 mins for the slipping dude.

    Silly you! :p

I heard (I think it was RTE) on the news that admittances to casualties in Dublin hospitals had gone up on average by at least a third.
(Not just down to high-heels I must add)
The numbers have generally risen just by silly people, doing silly things at the wrong place and/or time.

We humans sometimes never learn - no matter how many times we fall and break our backsides. :(

I saw a few kids out sledging on a hill, on a proper little sledge thing. But then the kid who owned the sled went home and took the sled with him. So the other kids stood around for a while and then stole the "for sale" signs of a couple of houses to use as sleds. I was quite impressed with their thinking, and to be fair, nobody is buying houses right now, so they won't be missed.

pile it somewhere its not in anyones way and not creating a hazard. theres always a grass verge or somehting nearby. Whats wrong with piling it up in your garden? Its not rubbish, it'll melt away in a few days.

Put it in a mound to the side of the footpath, or on the grass verge.

It's not like people (apart from nut-jobs) are gonna go out of their way to point and yell "Hahahahahahaha!" when an older person falls, but you can't help it if it makes you have a bit of a quiet giggle to yourself - if it's not a bad fall (obviously not a severe one resulting in injury). And it doesn't mean the person laughing wouldn't go over to help them (while holding in the laughter).

you are a vile person to laugh at an old person falling like that
would the thought not enter your head to help them ?
you should be seriously ashamed of yourself.

I saw a squirrel running up and down the garden skidding on the snow for fun.
My ducks went mental digging in the snow and throwing it over themselves, they love it.

Saw a mother with a pram having snowballs hurled in at the baby.
The wife just gave me a massive bollocking for throwing a snowball at our son.

To top it off, I've been banned from the maternity ward. :p
