I left the house for Dundalk at 7am this morning and I only arrived 5 minutes ago. A 70 minute journey should not take six fücking hours and no amount of your "but the views would have been beautiful" bullshįt is going to change how irate I am.
But Dex, it's lovely out! Look at all the snow!

I got an official warning for being 10 minutes late this morning because I did not call the duty manager.

Sorry we were more concerned with pushing a car over a frozen speedramp.

And a ****ing rake load of people have called in "sick" today, and I'm in trouble..**** off Xbox

Plus I read that thread and its a joke, it basically after a few pages just branded every foreigner a thief, and without knowing who this guy actually is, he is seemingly a no good Romanian thieving ****. According to that thread.

    Bit of a joke ; /

I hate that shït. I missed my college graduation because I was snowed in for one day a few years ago and my boss at the time decided to recind my holiday booking as punishment, claiming "If I can get in, you can get in". He gave out shït to me over the phone when I called in after the bus got stuck in 7inches of snow in the middle of the town, and twice as much when I got in the day after.

There's no grit Daz. None. What was there has been used. The streets in Dublin (main streets and side streets) are like glass. There's a layer of ice on the roads out here that's about an inch thick.

But it's ok - because after all the banks have plenty of grit. About 85 bEuro worth of it in fact. But as grit is now a highly valued commodity (due to it's obvious scarceness out there), they're going to stockpile it and wait to cash in on the grit market. A grit bubble beckons...

    . A grit bubble beckons...

I hereby call upon the IAA to purchase every retailer's complete stock of BBs and donate them to the various county councils for use in making safe the roads of Ireland.

Its a PR dream come true - airsoft will be universally acclaimed.

Although I guess Bio BBs wouldnt be much use.

This thread is about the best team you think in Airsoft and not a playground for trolling.
If you want to post crap or have a pissing contest there is the off topic madness thread.
Offending posts have been removed this time around.
Stick to the topic at hand any other off topicness will result in ban and infractions.

.....aaaaaaaaaaaand we're off again. Another classic example of 'over-moderation'.

The quote above is from the 'best team' thread. Ok, it was starting to get a bit off-topic but it was good-natured fun that everyone was getting a laugh out of. Instead of just dropping in a gentle warning to 'keep it on thread lads', we get ALL of the non-relevant (and for the most part quite humerous) posts deleted. Then we get accused of 'Trolling' and having a 'pissing contest' - neither of which were true (unless something was added lately that I didn't see). Congratulations on another classic example of why the Airsoft forum is gone to sh1t and why we are loosing so many of the old posters.

While I'm on a rant, I'm STILL waiting for an answer to this:
Right Andy, here's a question for you: why do the tags at the bottom of this page keep disappearing?

This is the off-topic thread where we all enjoy a LOL or two. All the tags have vanished in the last 20 minutes (except the off topic one). They were all mildly amusing such as "bring back kevteljure" , "guns make baby jesus cry", "a lolcat ate my tags", "SFW" etc etc.

If they were not abusive, defamatory, NSFW, etc then why do they keep getting removed? This has been happening quite a bit lately I've noticed.

If this is not an example of heavy-handed and unnecessary moderating then I don't know what is.

I await with baited breath the reason for this.

You did promise a week ago via PM that you would give an answer. I'm still waiting and my breath is still baited.

Apologies to all for the 'seriousness' of my post which is a departure from my usual LOL-tastic musings in this thread. However, I feel this has to be said.

Andy, for God's sake do yourself and this forum a favour and re-instate those deleted posts.

I've no idea what you're thinking when you delete posts like that, but you aren't, I assure you, benefiting the forum - you're ruining it. Every time you do something like that you lose credibility as a moderator.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,561 ✭✭✭andy_g

For discussion of over moderation or if you think there is bias here which i can assure you theres not there is helpdesk where an admin will look at the moderation in question or the new option available to you which i and my co-mod have already had to deal with from another forum is the dispute resolution section.

    Found here at www.boards.ie/dispute

I wonder whether or not anyone has the stats to look at the traffic to the airsoft forum in the past year. I'd guess that it's been decreasing steadily.

Naturally, there will be people who come to and leave the forum - but the level of general banter on here has practically disappeared in the past 6 months. Abusive posts are one thing - but general banter is another thing entirely.

Andy - on the other thread (best teams) you mentioned that certain posts may have been reported a couple of time. What measure are you applying to whether or not posts need 'moderating'? Is the fact that it gets reported a certain number of times the simpler decider? Is there any type of subjective sense check to see whether or not something is banter or trouble?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,124 ✭✭✭moggser

i think what the lads are asking is for you to explain "yourself" not re direct them to a helpdesk where it all get's lost in translation there

that dont seem to be doin your self any favors at all, the help desk dosent know why you act the way you do or delete posts will nille

me personally i dont really care any more who does what ill camp in the adverts for a bargain and every now and then ill take the piss owa someone
and throw up NSFW posts or what have ya that might or not make the light of day i know you and other mods dont like some of me posts

i dont mind if they are OTT and need to be struck form the record but it niggles me for the having a laff ones are struck off for no more reason then you or other mod is in pissy mood and dont like it

please help this forum back to the way it was get the good members that used to post here back posting and we might have a good forum once again

This forum used to be one of the most popular on boards.ie, I'd be curious as to how it ranks now.

Its nothing to do with bias...I dont think you're biased. I just think you're over moderating the forum, and to be honest Andy, I dont want to take this outside the forum and embarrass us all. The usual Boards.ie attitude will kick in, and admins who have no real concept of what this forum, which is pretty unique on Boards, is all about will just roll off a few cliches about rules and nothing will be done. They'll adhere to the Boards.ie "Don't question the mods" and "Its not strictly on-topic" crap, and it'll be a waste of time bringing it there. But I suspect you know that already.

I know you might think I'm picking on you, but I promise, I'm not. You're a dead sound guy, and a credit to the game, and I have absolutely no issues with you at all in real life - We've often stopped for a chat out at HRTA and I'd have no problem doing that anytime again in the future.

But you need to step off the gas - all you're doing is pissing people off and driving them away. This forum is not like most other forums on Boards.....its a lot more free-flowing, or at least it was once - and thats what made it so popular and such a good kick off point for new users to get advice. I know I would have been lost without it.

Again, I'm sorry if you think I'm picking on you alone....I just feel VERY strongly that this resource is being ruined day by day.

This forum used to be one of the most popular on boards.ie, I'd be curious as to how it ranks now.

Exactly dude - that's what I was getting at.

We're basically at a situation where we've gone from being treated to adults to being treated like children in a cushy padded play pen. It's insulting and personally I think that it detracts from the forum. This is now a staid and pale version of what it was when I joined last November.

As Moggy mentioned above, most 'old' users now come on for purely 'self interest' reasons - pick up something from adverts or the odd random post. This place used to be more of a community, where people helped each other out - that's gone.

Now, I know you might think that moderating a few 'random' posts in 'on-topic' threads, or 'dealing' with some pish-taking posts shouldn't damage the community aspect of this place - but it does. It leads to people leaving to go elsewhere, thereby depleting the opinions and views that otherwise would be present here for new players (and the experienced alike) to draw on.

    It's a sorrier forum as a result.

I'm gonna go back severl dozen pages in every sub-forum to get some LOLs and general banter, it may be old but it was good. Allow me if I may to compare moderating to marshalling.

When marshalling, you rely on not only what you can see, but from feedback from the players. You deal with players not abiding by the rules in a calm controlled manner, warning, sit out, sent off. Everyone's happy. Locking threads is like stopping a game, should only be done when you absolutely must, i.e: A bad injury. So the only time a thread should be locked is when it turns to slander, personal abuse, charter breaching, etc, however, once dealt with, the thread should be reopened, much like the game would be started up again.

Listen to the feedback from the lads, the airsoft forum has gone down hill, we all miss being able to have the lolz and Doc, I miss your epic rants and posts. Last thing I have to say is something I've said already.

We're losing some of the most experienced users on this forum, the absolute goldmine of information is dwindling. Masada - he's just gone from boards, yes, he did piss some people off (we all know who) and broke rules and stuff or whatever, whether you like it or not, that man knows his stuff, like Dex, Doc, Rogue, Moggy... Hmmm all members or indeed former members of the Hawks, a conspiracy I say!!

The airsoft forum is just boring now, there's no banter left except here in Off-topic Madness, but now that its meant to be SFW, it's crap, but fúck it, I will post funny NSFW things if I wish.

Bring back last years airsoft forum.

Ever spend any time in a safe zone? How do airsofters act? They act the maggot and talk gear in between.

We all know each other, and most of us enjoy the craic at airsoft games but most of us also cant get to that craic every weekend, I don't come on this forum to learn anything about airsoft bar the news thread but I can get that on arnies, I come here because I am cold and bored and want a mess because work is boring, my apt is cold, and I am not going to the pub in this ****e.

Re-name airsoft no craic allowed forum and be done with it, ALL threads go off topic, and thats DEADLY, anyone remember the glock thread? Best thread ever, hardly any glocks mentioned, just pure madness.

was typing out a reply myself and just couldnt get it to read the way i wanted it to come across but Ger has said it spot on

the forum used to hop, i for one could never keep track of all the replies etc, but now its gone so quiet that in some cases, up to an hour can go by without a single post

i noticed today at 1 stage that there were only 8-10 members online, thats a measure of how quiet its gone

im not sure if the forum will ever get back to the level it was at but i think things need to change to keep whos still here online

I don't have the experience that most of the lads here do, but I'd like to throw in my two cents if I may.

I think, in general, a forum related to any kind of social activity should be representative of the people who take part in it. I'm relatively new, but even when I started there was a decent bit of banter and mucking about on the forums, which seemed to be pretty representative of the airsofters I've met from just visiting retailers. I doubt I'd still be all that interested in sticking around if it wasnt for the underlying humour that was knocking around on here. And a bit of arsing around isn't detrimental to the forums in any way, you can still get help with any airsoft related woes, but it helps when you feel that there's a fun atmosphere while the srs bznz is still going on. Without a bit of craic the forums would just be sterile, and that's not at all representative of the airsoft community as I know it.

    A few things,

Firstly most mod decisions are taken after a group discussion, we have an Airsoft Mods forum and we use it to discuss matters before a decision is taken.

Second this thread is a not here for discussion of mod decisions taken in other threads, anybody who attempts to use this thread to do so will find their posts may be deleted or they will earn themselves a ban/infraction.

If you have an issue with a moderator decision PM the mod in question or you can discuss the issue in the feedback or help desk forums.

Stats; For the first 6 months of the year the Airsoft forum ranked 9th overall in terms of posts and views on boards.ie, for the 3 months July/August/September the forum again ranked 9th.
There's a post by me earlier in this thread giving the full list

This is the only place we can all voice our opinions for everyone to see, rather here on the airsoft forum than anywhere else. Ban me if you want but, the alternatives that you've mentioned have been tried and they failed.
We all know the options, change the way the forum is moderated or I guarantee the only forums that will get regular traffic are; Airsoft Sites, Airsoft Retailers and Airsoft Adverts.

    RIP Airsoft on Boards.
