    Just got email
However, based on current conditions and forecasts, the College Safety Officer has advised us that the event should not proceed.

Thank you for the work that you have put into preparing for Open Day, which with 123 presentations scheduled was likely to be the biggest and best Open Day ever at TCD.

Unfortunately, circumstances are outside of our and we must err on the side of caution, as the risk for visitors in getting to College, and then moving around College is too great.

Does this mean lectures as normal?

Email came from the admissions office so it is official. It was sent 13:38.

The Academic Secretary and Senior Lecturer make the decision on whether its a normal lecture day

I'd guess all will be clear by 14:30 once everyone is back from lunch

I'm liking the logo with "Cancelled" across it. Fair play to their graphics dept.

Engineering people were sent this in regards to classes being still off
Further to the cancellation of Open Day in Wednesday, 1st December, 2010 (as per Conor’s previous email), please note that I have been informed by the Academic Secretary that the situation remains as before with regards to teaching arrangements – all lectures and tutorials are cancelled on the day but labs and project work may run as scheduled on timetables from 2pm onwards.

You can plainly see all the effort that went into that, I think someone deserves a pay rise.

It's up to the discretion of the dept as to whether lectures are cancelled. I was working putting up signs for it today (and will be turning people away tomorrow) and was told by the guy organising it that this is the case. Also, it is cancelled, as opposed to postponed until further in the month.

Yeah, does the cancellation mean there will just be no open day now? =S

FML, I miss out on getting paid a tenner an hour to usher kids around the place.

On the plus side... a big day of study is looming...

Is there any word yet of this being rescheduled or is that just the end of it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,851 ✭✭✭PurpleFistMixer

There was some mention of it being rescheduled to Januaryish I do believe.

They did specifically say it was cancelled, and not postponed though, so like, don't be shocked if it's not.
