Well is it a good idea to just start up the car today as it's been sitting In the driveway since Friday and prob won't drive it till all the ice is gone.

I've read the handbook and it says to drive it straight away after start up. And letting it idle its way up to temperature would take a long time. Actually I think I'll leave it as it is :D

    Ps it's a 12 year old petrol 5 series.

My van was sitting for 9 days till yesterday. After getting in (door seals frozen) I just started the engine and put on the fans and started clearing the snow and ice off it. Was driveable after I'd finished that.

OP, don't start it until you're actually going somewhere. A car at idle will take ages to warm up, even in 'normal' weather. As long as the battery is ok you don't need to worry anyway.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.
