1988 Ford Escort MK4 1.6diesel van,,,great on diesel but oh so slow, very reliable.

1986 Toyota corolla 1.3 12 valve,,,made a mooooing sound every time I started it,had it about 6months running on a fiver every 2 days, finally filled it to go on holiday and clogged the fuel filter, went to get help and when I got back the local scum had set it on fire.

1988 Opel Senator 3.0L 24v,,,bought for 500 lids, hugely fast, hugely thirsty but uber rare and reliable, stolen and burnt out in D24.

1990 Ford Orion Mk2 1.3 HCS,,great car, sold it in perfect working order with 167k on the clock.

1992 Opel Vectra 1.6GL,,heap of junk, overheated and died.

1990 Mk 4 Ford Escort 1.4 CVH,,brilliant car, engine gave up the ghost at about 140k,parked it in my mates apartment complex, got a new engine only to find that a clown in a transit van had written it off in the car park.

1992 Mitsubishi Galant 1.8,,reliable and boring, broke timing belt at 138k,not worth fixing.

1992 Nissan Premera 1.6l hatch,,competent if not a little boring, stolen and burnt out in D22.

    1995 Nissan premara 1.6l saloon,,As above,sold to a mate.

1999 Opel Vectra 1.6l XLE,,,loved this car, comfortable, economical and well speced.

2002 Renault Scenic 1.4l dynamic,,,slow and thirsty when it worked, every time I think of that car the words Lambda and sensor spring to mind,,,left me under the impression that the French just cannot make good petrol cars.

2002 Hyundai Trajet,,won't go into detail but this car had the potential to be great, such a shame that the (main) dealer was a robbing knob end, paid out huge money on repairs, turned out that they should of all been covered by recall, dealer has since closed and car is back with the finance company.

1989 BMW 316 E30 four door saloon,,loved every second of owning this car, always started and drove, since been traded for an 02 Mitsubishi Colt for the girlfriend.

1990 Ford Escort 2 door Combi wagon/estate 1.3l popular,,Mega rare MK4 Escort 2 door estate with the old 1.3 high compression swirl engine and 4 speed box, wanted one for a very long time, and with a verified 42K on the clock,I think I will have this one for a good while.

    1) 1994 Daihatsu Charade 1ltr Turbo diesel - Prefect student car, cheap to run and got dogs abuse. Loved it.
    2) 1993 Nissan Micra 1.3 - Done a lot of miles in it, never let me down.

    1) 2004 Kia Rio 1.3 - Had a horrible rubbery gearchange, topped out at 100mph and took an age to overtake.
    2) 2003 MG ZT CTD - Remapped and chipped to about 170BHP. Mad amounts of torque, engine was a peach and for a diesel, drove and cornered wonderfully
    3) 2005 MG ZT 190 - Lacks the grunt of the diesel, but it's the best sounding V6 i've had the pleasure to hear and it's meant to be one of the best handling FWD saloons out there. I agree :P

2005 corolla saloon 1.4: reliable but wouldnt pull a cat out of a wet paper bag, this is what i currently drive, its not mine its my mums :D so better not crash it.
2005 almera hatchback: Dads, light on steering, looks nice outside, inside a bit dull, wheezy 1.4 as well.
2008 opel corsa: learners car with L for loser signs on it haha learnt to drive in this for test, was a nice car and comfy, nippy too.
2006 Ibiza: Nice interior, rough ride I thought, did one lesson in this for pre-test prefered the corsa.
2001 Ibiza: Dads until somone rear ended it, nice to drive like it better than 06 one,
1996 Ibiza: cousins field car, thrashed it, pale pink colour horrid, we bogged it badly one time and towed it out with tractor.
1994 Toyota Starlet: Grandads, hence OAP car :D:D green colour, nippy for 1.3.
1992 Opel Vectra: Cousins field car a few yrs back, was around 15 then or so, auto box, fast to drive and comfy, thrashed it, got crushed by farm tractor.
1991 Micra: Replaced vectra above, nippy and was bright red, comfy and in perfect condition but got smashed as well sadly.
1987 nissan sunny: heavy steering now, trying to do it up, good for wheelspins.
2000 Almera: Before 05 corolla, light steering and nippy, not powerful.
2000 Vw Transporter: drove it on beach with friends, got bogged, nice to drive, blind spots keep u alert
Peugeot 305 estate: drove on friends farm in england, field car, was grand but handbrake wouldnt work so hill startin was hard, comfy.
Tractor: dont ask, I nearly bogged it :D
2004 Landcruiser: On cousins farm drove few times, nice interior, easy to steer, powerful.
2005 landcruiser: Uncles, same jeep as above, drove briefly
1991 Fiesta van: field car, nippy and fun to drive
1994: Transit, driven off the main roads of course, heavy steering and u have to watch corners, was on farm
2005 Merc Sprinter: Driven on main road, had licence, nice to drive and fast, owners permission and supervision of course
2000 Micra: light steering, nippy, friends car.
2001 Nissan March: auto matic, not my cup of tea
2000 e200 merc: Briefly driven, nice gear change and comfy, parking pedal brake was confusing 1st time.
1988 mazda 323: field car, nippy and fun to drive.
2000 corolla: learn to drive course in transition yr, nice car to drive but forgetable.
2002 citroen xsara van: Farm van, comfy
1998 picnic: Easy to drive, good steering, relatives car
1999 clio: fun to drive, not in field though, bumpy
2004 mazda 6: good steering, big car to drive, relatives car with lots of spec like air con, e/w
2006 Nissan Note, briefly driven, like new micra inside, smooth car to drive
2000 skoda octavia: friends car, 1.6, was fast to drive, heavy on petrol
2003 Zafira: not comfy, found reverse gear hard to achieve 1st time,
2006 Vivaro: Nice van, easy to drive, hard reversing as left hand mirror was broken
1994 nissan sunny van: diesel 1.7, reliable van and takes a lot of abuse, smooth gear change
1991 mitsubishi lancer: First car to drive properly in field, nearly carshed into hedge though, was around 14 then, thing was wrecked

2010 Ferrari Enzo and Bugatti Veyron: nice cars to drive oh wait im just dreaming:D:D

1987 Ford Orion diesel - slowest car on earth. Old man didnt want us to be learning to drive in anything quick or expensive...

1993 Ford Orion diesel - not much quicker but had a working radio so that was an improvement

1998 Ford Mondeo 2.0Slx - first car I owned. Felt like an M5 after the 2 previous motors:D Big, comfortable, quick, practical. 30mpg on a good day, only costs were a couple of tyres and some suspension bushes. I absolutely loved it. Yes, Im aware how sad that sounds...

2003 VW Golf 1.4 Base - girlfriend's car. Two cars into one apartment parking place wouldnt go, so the Mondeo got sold. Underpowered to the point of being dangerous. Savage service cost and complete absence of any kit (tape deck and no remote locking on a 2003 car...)

2005 Volvo S40 1.8 - still have this one. Only average performance but a very comfortable car. Will probably have it forever as I can't afford to change it

I don't get, why people always hang them up in the road tax cost. If you do the milage, the road tax is nothing compared to all the other cost.

Would you want to pay 1.50l/petrol like in France instead of having the road tax ? On one hand I would, on the other hand i'd prefer cheaper fuel like here.

At the end of the day, the tax isn't the killer. It's the upkeep. Especially for performance cars.

Ah its a work in progress, very rough state, would ruin your mental image of them. :p Its a 1998 pre-facelift, so the one straight out of Ronin.
You can see a little bit of it in the thread about cleaning up old wheels.

I didn't realise so many people bought older cars than their last. A lot of ye have say a 2004 Ford XXX then switch to a 1998 VW XXX . . . Or something like that.

Anyways, here's my list in order of appearance.

    • 1998 Ford Fiesta - Loved it. Had electric everything. Though I was the shizzle.
    • 1999 Nissan Almera saloon - Clutch fell through on the 3rd day and that was pretty much how it went for a year.
    • 1998 Rover 75 - No power steering but was free so ok for run around.
    • 1999 MKIV GTi - Lovely, fast and the windows rolled up when I set the alarm :)
    • 2004 Audi A4 TDi - Current car, 8 months down the line and I'm still in love with it! Saves me a bomb compared to the GTi

Next up is a 2007 DC5. Insurance permitting.

The age of the car is not important. What is important is budget, value, spec, milage, how well it was kept etc. Age is a minor factor.

More issues with cars manufactured after '03/'04 than before because of cut of production cost. Ie cars were cheaper build and thus also break easier. Doesn't apply to all brands, but many. Electrical/onboard computer gremlins can be added.

2006-2010 1996 Opel Corsa - loved it in the way a mother loves her ugly, special son. Useless but reliable.

2010- 2004 Opel Vectra - handles well, bit thirsty but 1.6 petrol what can you expect really.

Not a bad coupla cars for 22 years old I don't think!
