    Thats some history!! ;)

My 1st was a Mk I Ford Focus Zetec ('01) - loved it - great handling - but mine was the 1.4l, so was very underpowered

Then i bought the house and had to sell the Focus to clear the loan to get the mortgage - wasnt a happy camper! Stuck drivin her Almera ('04) - she loves it - i hate it - pretty nippy but feels like it will turn over on a roundabout!!
Then she bought a Megane Coupé ('00) as a 2nd car - hated it too - a dog of a car - glad thats gone!!

Then i got my way and got a car I wanted!!!
    Driving a BMW 523i ('96) and love it :D

1995 - Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia (1989) I bought this one for Stg£350. It went like shít off a shiny shovel, but only did 8 miles to the gallon despite my mechanic mate's best efforts. Kept it for 9 months then sold for £200 for parts.
1996 - MG Midget (1977) Stg£1000. A novelty. Sold for same amount a year later.
1998 - Volvo 340 (1986) Ie£500. Brilliant car. Just kept going & going. Sold for same amount a year later.
2000 - Skoda Felicia (new) Still have this one & it owes me nothing. I'll hold on to it until it gives up the ghost. I'll be lost without it then. There's nothing on the market these days that compares to it - particularly in size. FFS - I've had a cement mixer in the back of it with room to spare for cavity blocks.
2005 - Skoda Octavia (2000) Mrs Billy uses this one. Lovely car.

1977 Toyota Corolla 3 dr estate.
    1988 Toyota Hilux double cab
1986 VW Golf 5 dr 1.6 reliable as a stone once I had replaced the pierburg carb.

1969 mini 75 quid.....39k miles and one owner from brand new (i got it in 88)
198?? renault 14, ugliest car ever
    1986 jap import micra......unbreakable
    1990 mitsubishi colt.....loved it
1993 mitsubishi lancer nippy for a 1.3 uber reliable
1996 citroen Xantia TDI comfy comfy comfy.
1998 opel vectra... newest car I ever bought was only 8 monts old ...POS
1996 seat toledo boring and ugly
1998 ford mondeo diesel.. great drive but POS
1996 seat cordoba diesel.... cost e800. had it for 2 years sold it for 500
1998 pug 406 TD, very comfy and economical.. ****e suspension (it feels great but I just seem to have to replace a bushing or linkage every week)

Since the Lancer my car choice has been by necessity and not desire, I do about 35-40k(miles) a year so I buy things that have done their depreciating.
and I have yet to enter the 21st century. Might crack it with the next one:rolleyes:

of all those cars I would buy another Xantia and another 406... Sh1t I must be getting old!

86 Fiat Uno. I liked it because it was a "fire" engine, lol.
87 Toyota Corolla. Wouldnt die no matter what I did to it.
91 Honda Integra. Love that car to bits, no suspension, but a great reliable car.
97 Mercedes C180. Big horrible piece of crap. Let me down on a daily basis, drank the fuel, and cost a fortune to be repaired. Made me hate Mercs. And it was green too, just to rub it in.
02 Golf. Nice motor, company car, comfortable, fast, reliable.
05 Peugeuot 306, had a tendency to fall apart if you went over a speed bump.
And now back to drive the Integra as above, which I still love.

I am still only learning but I have driven 3 different cars.

Boyfriend' 96 Mitsubishi Pajero Jnr (Auto, Jap import)- hate the steering, have to spin the wheel loads to make it turn at all.

Instructor's 05 Ford Focus- doesn't cut out on me too much as seems to be very smooth. Don't like the gearstick as it moves too smoothly (seems to be able to move in a curve) so it's hard to feel if I'm moving into 3rd or 5th.

My car- 97 Fiat Punto SX60- (NO SMART REMARKS)- I like my own car the best!!!
-I drove it through an 8ft metal gate by accident (had the car in gear instead of neutral starting off) and it didn't so much as scratch the car let alone dent it.
-Gearstick can only go in straight lines so it's easier to feel the H shape of the gears.
-Nice and big on the inside, I'm a bit leggy so the usual Micra/Corsa/Starlet wouldn't be great for me.
-Only thing I don't like is I cut out a lot in this car, probably my own fault for rushing.

Nice selection of cars there anan1 ! Bit of a petrol head?

I've no car yet, college has to be finished 1st!

Drive's parents car - Mazda Demio - Not fast (faters Ducato is faster), don't like how it looks - to much like a shopping cart, nothing works right in it. I guess it's an ok car for doing up experience (3 years now).

Driven brothers 1989 mini a few times, slow (1litre, fitting a stage 1 kit at the min so might be alittle faster after that, if that possible), lots of fun, (it's red) gets quite a bit of attention. I dont think he's had much problems with it, except a craked head gasket and some rust that he's getting sorted.

Eying up a BMW E30 3series at the min. Always liked them (specially the M3). Will be 25 and finished college next year, Hibernian quote me 1300 for a 325 sport, seems reasonable for 1st car i might own with a decently sized engine... We'll see next year.

92 Citroen AX GT - loved the little kick you got when the second carb opened, but being French something was bound to give and eventually the head gasket did.
92 Honda CRX 1.5X - the "starter" CRX with no injection. It had just been imported and really looked the part even if it didn't have the power of its bigger brothers. Kept it for five and half years before throwing it over a ditch on the way to work one morning. :(
91 Honda CRX 16V - bought as a cheap fill-in when the car above bought it, I only sold it earlier this year over three years after I bought it. Fun and utterly reliable.
91 Honda CRX VTEC - My current daily driver, imported it myself three years ago. Quick, agile and utterly reliable.
91 Honda CRX VTEC Turbo - My current toy, has spent more time off the road than on it since I imported it earlier this year, but I'm finally getting around to sorting out a couple of niggling issues with it. Savagely quick, terrible suspension for Irish roads.

    Hmm, there's definitely a pattern emerging. :)

    Ford Fiest - Crap

    Opel Corsa - Even crappier

    Hyundai Accent - Slight Improvement

    Peugeot 405 - Lasted 2 days

    Peugeot 405 - Not bad for €500

Toyota Carina II (diesel) one of the most reliable cars ever made

Toyota Corona - 450,000Km on the clock, ha, ha

Peugeot 406 TD - My 1st decent car, good motor

Audi A4 Tdi(110) - Nice lookin car, good engine, handled like a barge.

Audi A4 Tdi(90) - Same as before only slower

VW Passat Tdi(130) - Way better than the A4 in every way

Mitsubishi FTO MIVEC V6 - 200BHP, this car was unbelievable, cheap and capable of +140MPH, handled like a dream. Brilliant

Peugeot 406 hDi - Great car, way better than the previous, non-intercooled version, capable of +130MPH

    BMW 318 - Boring

    Ford Transit T280 - Why didn't I get a VW Transporter?

Toyota Supra MkIV TT - Yes, this car is everything I dreamed of and more.

The TD 406 has a complicated multi arm suspension system for the rear.
I had one and it's really difficult to track down suspension problems,
noises, feeling that the car is swaying on the road.

Alot of mechanics will have trouble isoloating the problem

I know they're expensive but you're better off taking it to a Peugeot dealer or a mechanic that's very familiar with 406s.

Renault R4 - cheap, cheerful, useful, simple, great first car, rust big problem
Citroen GS - comfy, frugal, clever, different, reliable
Mini 1000- great fun, very quick for 40 bhp, shocking build quality
VW T3 diesel 50 bhp camper - my home is my castle (and about as fast)
VW T3 TD 70 bhp camper - slightly faster castle
Saab 900 turbo 175 bhp - stylish rocket ship, suspension a bit weak, very fast
Saab 9000 CSE 150 bhp - relaxed cruiser with overtaking oomph ..soo comfy
Suzuki Jimny - fun, reliable, great off road but a bit mickey-mousey
VW T3 TD syncro 4WD- go anywhere, do anything and bring the kitchen sink ..just take your time. One of the last well engineered, non-electronic VW's

Alfa Romeo- had most of the range, the only one I really like was a 2.5 GTV which just fell apart with rust.
Audi- had a couple of early quattros, 100 and a 90. Still have an S8 and love it to bits, I like Audi styling anyway.
BMW- had most of them new and old, still have an X5 and an M5 but doubt I'll buy another as I don't like the styling anymore.
Bentley- had a continental, vintage one, years ago and always felt it just short of the mark.
Citroen- had a CX, BX, ZX, AX, a GSA, a DS, a 2 CV, a Dyane, C6, C5 and C4. Tbh the only one I really like is the current C6 and probably not for long.
Cadillac- have a 63 saloon and love the styling.
Daimler- have a couple of Majestic majors and a few sovereigns, just like them.
    Daf- had a 66, heap of sh*te.
Ferrari- had a 412 and a 308GTB, great fun but I grew out of them.
Hyundai- had loads of different ones, cheap and cheerful.
Isuzu- had an Aska, a Gemini and a Trooper, all reliable but nothing special at the end of the day.
Jaguar- had loads of different ones and all of them cost me more than they were worth.
    Kia- as Isuzu.
Landrover- had a Defender and it should really have been called a tractor, had a Freelander and it was really a Rover 414 done up to look like a jeep, another heap by the way. Had a Discovery, another bucket, the only thing reliable about it was it always let you down.
Lotus- had an Esprit in 1990, when it was godd it was great but when it was bad it was horribe.
    Mercedes-Benz- had 122's,123's,124's, 126's, a 250SL, a 500SL and have an SL350. Up to the 126, great cars, after 126 rubbish with the exception of the SL's
Fiat- rust, electrical grief, mechanical breakdowns and general self destruction, Fiat always delivered.
    Porsche- had a 924, a 911, a 944 and a 928, well built but way overrated, even the 911.
Renault- with the exception of the Clio, I HATE RENAULTS, have had most of the range and the cost me dearly.
Range Rover- had a 4.6 that used to lock me out on a regular basis, handled like a pig and drank fuel for Ireland.
Rolls Royce- had a couple of Silver Shadows, have a Silver Cloud, it's one of my favorites tbh.
Saab- had a 9000, 900, i, turbo, Aero and still have a 900 classic turbo convertible, the last of the real Saabs, the modern ones do nothing for me.
VW's- modern ones have broken my heart so I hate them, have a 67 Beetle and 6 mark 2 GTI's, the last of the real VW's.
Volvo- have a 1973 144, had most of the rest too, the old ones were tanks but I love them, the modern ones are Renault and I hate them.

Well as far as I remember the E36's engine noise was a bit nicer (but engines are covered nowadays as you know to reduce noise), but I had no option whatsoever, only ABS I think. It was a pure stock, no mod.

But it was a true head turner, body color was electric purple with beige leather seats. Helped out to crush a few pussies, in the back seats in shopping centers parkings, don't why girls were crazy about the colors...

I actually bought the 320d brand new but I was so disappointed that I sold it shortly after to get the E36 325i. The E46 was too assisted in my opinion and I found it very dangerous to drive (Call me crazy).

My E46 325i has a lot of options, including heated seats, plus this is a steptronic box (Auto and manual), a real pleasure for me. So I donno if I changed or if the E46 has changed (Probably both) but I now prefer my current to the E36 325i. And still the engine is roaring loud enough anyway :-)

1991 Nissan Sunny 1.4 LX- first car so it was the bee's knees to me at the time.
1997 Toyota Corolla 1.3 XLi Plus - ok but very light on the road.
1994 Honda Accord 2.0 LS (company car) - excellent car, shame I had to give it back.
1999 Opel Vectra 1.8 CD - rubbish from start to finish. Glad to get rid of it.
2001 Toyota Avensis 1.8 Luna MkI - good car.
2003 Toyota Avensis 1.8 Luna MkII - put 167k miles on it over 4.5 years without a problem, great car.
2005 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia TDCi - only have it 6 weeks but so far so good.

2002 - Seat Ibiza 1.4 Stella - Nice enough, never gave any trouble. It was my first car and I took it over from my Mam when she changed her car.
2007 - Nissan Micra - Company car. Drove this everyday from Portlaoise to Dublin and back. Not really made for 120kph driving on a motorway. Still managed to clock 25,000km in three months :D
2006 - Renault Laguna Sky Dynamique - Company car. Meh. Never gave trouble (amazingly) but was very fiddly the electronic handbrake / start button would kill me if the car cut out in traffic.
2003 - Mercedes C220 - Company car. Drove it for a few days. It was fine.
1998 - Jaguar XJ8 3.2 V8 - What a car!!!! Only problem was you'd want to have an oil tanker following you for the amount of petrol it consumed.
1998 - Mercedes S320 - Same deal as above with the petrol. Old shape S-Class, it'd make you feel as though you were in the Russian Mafia (I don't know why!)
2001 - BMW 520i - Absolutely fantastic to drive. Very solid & responsive. Nicest car I've driven in a long time.

I work in the trade so I get to drive a lot of nice cars :D

1986 Ford Orion (M2)1.6DS (bought in 1992)- Very Economical, Serious Rust Problem, Had problems starting it, Also Fan problems.
1990 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6GL (bought in 1995) - Nothing but problems - Engine, Water Pump, Electrics....
    Moved to Finland
1986 Saab 90 (bought in 1998)- Great car but way too thirsty - only reason to get rid of it.
1989 Peugeot 305 1.6 petrol (bought in 1999) - Everyting just seemed to break on this car except the motor itself, which leaked a lot of oil.
1998 Fiat Brava 1.4 petrol (bought in 2001) - Went well for a while but then the electrics caused problems all the time with different things.
2003 Nissan Primera 1.6 Visa (bought new) - BEST CAR I'VE EVER HAD. Never ever had a problem, not one if you don't include having to have the odd headlight changed. Would still have it today if it hadn't been for some idiot crashing into me and writing my wonderful car off!!
2003 Renault Scenic 1.6 petrol (bought in 2006 in a hurry as I needed a car right away after the crash) - bought in haste. Again, electrical problems from the start. Also, the heater blower has packed in now, have had it fixed three times times!!
Will be changing again in January hopefully as I need a car I can rely on.

    1993 - Opel Corsa (1984 saloon 1.1)
1997 - Opel Corsa 1.2 (First and only new car I'll ever buy and last opel)
2000 - VW Passat 1.8 (engine blew up and coolant pipe broke)
    2002 - Rover 620 (1995 - loved that car, basically a honda accord)
2005 - Mercedes S320 (2000 - Still in love with this thing, costs a bit in fuel and maintenance but the sheer comfort of it is incredible).

2004 Nissan Primera 1.8 (Parents) - Car looked New, low mileage but suspension was terrible, and gearbox always played up ..especially in reverse. ..please note: This was quickly replaced by a far nicer '04 Avensis
2001 Nissan Almera 1.6 (Parents) - Good and Nippy (twincam 16v) and actually fun to drive! Passable interior, a mechanic owned her before so is in top condition and running better than the original!

2000 Honda Prelude 2.0i (My First Car) - Quick but refined and definitely nice to drive, she's totally immaculate and I love her! :o

I've test drived a few other cars when car hunting for GF, but suppose they don't count for this..

    2000 Pug 206 1.2 - This one in particular was a dog...
2001 Hyundai Accent 1.4 - All together good but boring, wheel and gear box were very light compared to the larger cars above. Good value.
2001 Corsa - All I can say is it bridges the gap between the 206 and the Accent. "Forgettable"

1999: 1986 Toyota Corolla DX diesel = Got from father, HG went at 160k, not worth fixing

1999: 1995 Ford Mondeo TD = Little sluggish, but wonderful car.

2006: 2003 Ford Focus TDCi = Wonderful car. Still have it and will for a while yet.

2007: 1974 Ford Capri 2.1 = My toy. Surprisingly reliable for its age (although the fact it has a late model Sierra engine and running gear from a Laser helps massively I suspect. Wonderful to drive, drinks petrol when pushed.

Started on 2 wheels, then moved on to 4!

1999: 1998 Yamaha 50cc 2-stroke scooter. Used to cost about £3 to fill its tank from empty :)
2002: 1999 Yamaha Virago 125. Slow slow slow four-stroke v-twin but it looked lovely and had a nice big comfy seat. High maintenance though. It tended to eat chains no matter how much you kept them oiled and adjusted. Also snapped its clutch cable, stranding me at work one day.

*near heart attack occurs upon discovering my five year no claims built on 2 wheels counts for precisely nothing when moving to 4*

2005: 2000 Ford Fiesta zetec 1.25. Fun. Ate an exhaust that was fortunately covered under dealer warranty.
2006: 2002 Hyundai Coupe fx 1.6. No problems, could have done with more power though. Couldn't get insured on anything more than about 110bhp at the time anyway. Got a very good trade-in price for it.
    2007: 2007 Honda Civic ES 1.8 i-vtec. I <3 it. I plan to keep it till 2010 at least.

    My daily drivers :

92 Ford Escort. Pile of poo but it done the job

95 Pug 405. I had it 2 days when I wrote it off on the Mallow Road on a wet morning. Lesson learned.

96 Mondeo 1.6. I would say, best value I got from a car. It had 60k on it when I bought it in 2001(ish), and even at that I'd suspect that it was clocked. I did a further 100k on it over the space of about 3 years. Solid comfortable reliable cheap to run car. Sold it to a friend of mine for 500 squids and his brother wrote it off 2 weeks later.

2002 MG ZS. 1.8. My daily driver for the last 3 years. A very nice car to drive. Looks well when washed. But gives trouble and is practically impossible to sell. Sick of it now.

Other cars that have passed through my hands

93 (I think) Toyota Cynos. Rush of blood to the head. My wife hated it, so I sold it again a few weeks later. Made 200 squids and bought a CD player for the Mondeo.

95 VW Corrado. Bit of a Lemon I bought in the dark down the south of Engerland. It was only the 8V so it was a bit slow. Also, it had been in a crash (hit up the butt). But I loved it. I was going to keep it, but I couldn't sell the MG and I needed the money so I sold it at a loss in the end. I would like to buy one again. A 2.9 or maybe even just 2 Litre 16V if I saw a cheap one.

00 Saab 93 Turbo Coupe. Very comfortable, looked great in black. But the 2 Litre Turbo Petrol engine was a stone ravin' alcoholic. Had a few problems too. Sold it after it sitting in my yard for 12 months.

00 Passat 1.8T. Lovely lovely car to drive, but hard on juice. Not as bad as the Saab though.

99 318is Coupe. This is my big regret. I picked it up off eBay in the UK about 2 years ago. It was a beauty. Flew through the NCT here. I had no intention of keeping it and sold it on and made good money on it. But as soon as it was gone, I regretted it. I have seen it around town since and it still looks fantastic. I still regret selling it.

1998 Ford Escort 1.4 Ghia - great car to start off in

2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - loved this car was great to own, nippy enough too

2003 Ford Focus 1.4 Freedom - lovely cars, great to drive, loved the look, the 1400cc was just too slow and it was the base model with no extras so it annoyed me

1999 Honda Integra Type R - renowned as the best ff car in the world and i'm not gonna argue with anyone that says it, fun!! :)

Loved 'em all. Cars older than you rule!

    ........you're only 19 ?? :D

I was in the trade for about 11 years so I'll exclude an demo cars or cars that I have bought and sold on my own since. I also exclude my parents cars that I used on and off in between. The following are cars I bought with my own money and used as daily/regular drivers.

1977 Ford Cortina Mk4 - Rusty scrap that I fixed up and sold to the knackers !

1978 Ford Escort Mk2 1600 Sport - I drove the cr4p out of it but it was a bad one and fell apart. I never had the time 'nor inclination to fix it properly.Sold to a mate.

1990 Opel Corsa 1.4SR -Bought when 6 montsh old. Great car, did mad things at mad speeds and got away with it. Modified the engine, brakes gearbox, suspension, kept it spotless and then gave it to my mother who used it 'till 2000.

1990 Opel Corsa GSi1.6 - My girlfriend, now wife, used this for about 3 years. It was crashed and we repaired it then sold it to a friend, stolen and burnt !

1992 Renault Clio 16V1.8 - Road rocket, abs fab car with terrific grip and grunt. One of the most fun cars I ever drove, and I drove it hard. Clutch then starter motor were the only problems in 3 years. Sold to a friend !

2000 Pegeout 206 1.4LX-Bought new for wife and got every factor extra available. looked great with 15" wheels, sports suspension and wheel arch extensions.Too flimsy.

1997 Alfa 155 2.0TS - Another great driving car and despite their reputation this one only ever suffered a broken door handle and the usual Variator fault. Did several track days and had lots of fun. Plenty of high end grunt but no torque 'till 4000 which became very tiresome as did hard suspension. Sold to first viewer.

2001 Mercedes C180 Avantgarde-Bought new but dealer damaged it so got rid.
2001 Mercedes C200 Kompressor- Bought new to replace above. Loved it and kept it for 2 years and 45,000 miles. No faults. Very comfortable and great colour -Amethyst Violet

1964 Mercedes 230SL Pagoda - Love this car. Drove it regularly over long distances never any problems. rebuilt the engine and gearbox and used it for 5 years. Still have it though restoring it as a long term project.

2003 Mercedes CLK200 Kompressor- Bought new. Love this car still have it, my wife drives it all the time now. Only fault was pass door lock. Also boot spring snapped which cost €5 to replace. Gearbox switch leaked which cost €8 to fix.

1968 Mercedes 280SE Coupe - My favourite of them all. Drove it almost daily for 2 years, very comfy, enough power, not great on fuel but superb car. Almost finished restoration now and then it will be used regularly again !

1994: Ford Orion: Bucket of Sh!te
1999 : Suzuki Swift (bought new) the 3 cylinder beast as it was nicknamed. It was a handy run about. Past my driving test in it.

2005: Suzuki Grand Vitra XL7: Never had any trouble with it... unfortunately I have out grown it.... not enough cargo space.
