Leslie Nielsen has passed away in hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida after complications from pneumonia.

    [A] statement from his agent:

We are sadden by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in THE NAKED GUN series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60 year career in motion pictures and television.

RIP. I knew it wasn't likely but I always hoped for another Naked Gun film.

I know the term is thrown about too often, but the man was a true legend of comedy!

Normally I don't really care when celebrities die, but this has really saddened me. RIP!

"You'd better tell the Captain we've got to land as soon as we can. This woman has to be gotten to a hospital."

    "A hospital? What is it?"

"It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now."

RIP to a true comedy icon

'The Naked Gun,' 'Police Squad,' 'Airplane!' and 'The Poseidon Adventure' are true classics, I'll keep enjoying them for the rest of my life. RIP.

    Edit:

Man, I forgot he's in the best sci-fi movie of the 50's...

Wasn't Naked Gun 4 in the works?

Gutted to hear about this. The Naked Gun films are one of the first films I genuinely fell in love with. Spoof comedy done right.

    "Awfully big moustache"

    RIP Leslie Nielsen. Absolute genius!

No, he'll always be Leslie Nielson to me. Probably the biggest influence on my humour, without a doubt. Any film of his you threw on, you and the family could laugh their asses off!

He was 84 but damn it's hard to take in that such a nice, genuine guy passed this way.

Always will be a legend, now begins a Leslie Nielson marathon again in honour of probably the best guy for delivering deadpan humour.

    RIP, buddy.

I'm genuinely crushed to hear this, myself and my brother were raised on Airplane! and The Naked Gun Trilogy. No matter how bad the film, Nielsen was always pure comedic gold (Scary Movie 4, Dracula Dead And Loving It anyone?). I'll remember him for one of his later gems though, Wrongfully Accused, fantastic spoof of The Fugitive

    R.I.P Leslie

I've never laughed so hard as a kid than when he was trying escape from that train after he escaped off the prison bus :D

Classic milk out the nose moment for me too! :D If one good thing has come from this it's prompted me to seek out this film again!

    Ach, another good man down.

Got the Police Squad series a couple of years ago, will rewatch soon.

    RIP.

My name is Sergeant Frank Drebin, Detective Lieutenant, Police Squad. There'd been a recent wave of gorgeous fashion models found naked and unconscious in laundromats on the West Side. Unfortunately, I was assigned to investigate holdups of neighborhood credit unions. I was across town doing my laundry when I got the call on the double killing. It took me twenty minutes to get there. My boss was already on the scene

    That was hilarious.
Especially with the train peaking from behind the tree.

Me and my dad would bond by sitting down and laughing through this man's films, he is going to be missed, RIP.

You have films like Disater Movie and Date Movie, etc but none of these will ever recreate the success of films like Airplane and Naked Gun, never ever!

Really loved Airplane and Police Squad, his party piece of fake farting was brilliantly childish. RIP

Dutch: "Who are you and how did you get in here?"
    Frank Drebin: "I'm a locksmith. And, I'm a locksmith."
