OP you might be better off getting a map of Ireland and posting a pin at some random town.

theres a tonne of towns/cities which would benefit from a new club - but the problem is the margins for profit are very narrow - drinks offer a slight mark-up and would be the main incentive for getting people away from a pub.

Lets face it - if you are comfortable in a pub having a laugh - why would you want to pay an entry fee to a club to do the same.... people these days are watching the money...so the only incentive would be offering cheaper drink or drink promotions.....its a market which isn't really viable in my opinion..... by all means - if you have money to invest - it could turn out to be a great investment, but you need to convince people to part with their money - which in this current climate is not an easy thing to do.

As we approach Christmas - people will not be going out as much as normal - so they can save money to buy presents and maybe go out over the holidays, so if you are serious, consider having a venue which could offer christmas parties/sectioned off areas/reserved areas - VIP areas.

Best of luck with it if you do start a club somewhere....its going to be an expensive gamble (hope it works out)

"a club is not just for christmas" :pac:

Out of interest, for Nenagh, is Club Meka in the Abbey Court Hotel still open? I see a lot of mention of only one nightclub in Nenagh.
It was a bit outside town, the location was an issue though there was a shuttle bus doing laps off the town.

Many, many people in Nenagh used to get a bus to the Ragg outside Thurlus so there is a market in Nenagh for sure.

Not sure what your location will be though

carrigaline in cork. People can't be bothered getting a taxi to and from cork city. Population is about 15k to 20k and there are plenty more small towns in the area.

There is not even a late bar so if i was setting up a nightclub it would be there.

Spot on. dont live in carrigaline but have been out there a few times and am amazed the place just closes down. Cork too far and costly to get a cab to and from.

I can't see another nightclub in Nenagh being a success. It would probably get the crowds at the start because it would be a change from the norm. However the days of full nightclubs in Nenagh are no longer around.

No meka is no longer open. It's been closed for years.

    +1 on Clonmel

Dannos is the only 'Proper'-ish nightclub but that only opens a handful of times a year, and usually packs out when it does..

Okeeffes is the ONLY other option but at this stage is nothing but a filthy cattlemart!
A new nightclub would do well considering Clonmel has a popluation of around 20,000

Midleton Co. Cork, population including rural areas of nearly 27,000 (according to wiki) last night club was closed down bout 10 years ago because it suited the hotel that it was in, planning permision has been grant twice for a new 1, 1 of those is an old leisure center, has planning for nightclub, late bar and 2 story extension and planning for new bridge to allow access from tesco carpark and has all the licenses, but was put up for sale as soon as the owner got the planning and licenses! most recent was granted for a nightclub in the old cinema, but has been nothing happen since it was granted.
Midleton currently has a 1 late bar that is packed to the rafters of a saturday night and if your not in before 11 you can 4get about gettin in there. Midleton is also a Cork satellite town, with rail links to the city and every growing population, a nightclub would be a great addition to midleton and would have a massive earning potential, with it been the only night club between dungarvan and Cork city!!

    Hi guys,

If you feel your town needs a new nightclub, then let me know?
Ideally a town that has lots of pubs and only one nightclub.
For example; i'm form a town that had a dancehall operate as a nightclub for 5-6 years charging 10 euro at the door into an overcrowded h*le and had no real competition, now the town has 3 nightclubs competing against each other and its 5€ into them all now and all have top entertainment. (Can't beat a bit of competition) but I want to know of towns that have a similar story and are in need of a new club or some competition.

YES! Kildare town definitly needs competition for it's nightclub Tiger Lillys, last time I went it cost me 14 euro just to get into the place because it's compulsory to put your jacket in the cloakroom, even if it's just a cardigan, which also means it's freezing in the smoking area. Also there are more pubs in the town than there are people!

OP Do you have any experience running a night club or working in a night club? Just wondering your experience and how fast you think you could establish a club up and running.

I pm you aswell incase you did not get this message.

I'm not so sure if everyone in Nenagh hates Maximus. Most like that if you head there your sure to meet who your looking for. Most of us give out about it but kinda like it. An alternative would be good though! A little competition wouldn't go astray. There core competency and the reason the price doesn't bother people is that they get the poorer crowd by offering them free entry before 11 and get the working crowd(who pay in) because there the only place to go(also heavy drinkers will get in for free by going in the other entrance at any time). Also tbh they have a good policy of letting in young "h-t" girls and not young troublesome boys. Which keeps the older crowds of men coming all the time!!

I worked in Meka when it was open approx in 2003 and it was packed every Saturday night from approx February to September. Made money hand over fist, foam partys and the likes on Friday nights also brought in a small but profitable crowd. From what I remember we had to turn away people on Patricks Night with a crowd of 800 in house. Capacity was about 600. But it went down in the winter as people didn't want to walk or pay for a taxi/wait for a taxi to get there during the winter. Also Maximus re opened formerly easy street around may june but was deserted until the weather hit. They tried offering free taxi's which was terrible PR as the free taxi's got you there but you didn't get a taxi back into town at the end of the night.

The only competition in the area since Meka was when The Kenyon bar received a late licence until 1.30 or 2. That was doing relatively well until the owners of Maximus purchased it. When it was bought it was easily the most modern bar in the town, it now looks like another dive the bathroom is appalling. I looked at accounts for Ormond Hotel (Nenagh) Limited. Not much to see but worth a look on the CRO website costs a €5. I can't say anything without being liable but I suspect you could add alot to those figures follow the paper trail. Can't believe they named it so openly I would have called it something completely different myself.

One final word Everywhere in the country Des Bishop was 20 in Nenagh it was 25. Greed is the mother of all fk ups. I wish you the best and mail me if you have any queries or don't know the area too well!
