Love the way the mention of the word scum to discribe a group of protesters. Tell ya want you come up around this neck of the woods and ye will see real scum.

People calm down and stop having a hairy mary for gob sake.

The gate was open, they walked in , shouted, the stig went nuts. Other Garda calmed the stig down and the group about 5 meters inside the gates. Sat down then left, and there labeled scum. Hahaha, if there scum. You really have no clue.

People get out raged about taxs , saying lets storm the dail kick up a fuss

People storm dail kick up a fuss,

People who just said lets go kick up a fuss are now calling people scum

    Process repeats

Just to edit this, fair play to the other Garda there that actully kept the peace and done a good job without any violence use of force.

Oh ffs!! They didn't try to attack him. If fifty people attacked the one cop he wouldn't be able to walk away from it.

What did happen was a very minuscule incident. A few walked through a gate and handbags ensued. not worth getting outraged at the coppers or the shinners.

You agree the people were trying to rush the building yes? Therefore he fulfilled his duties.

Storming government buildings would have meant entering the building. Jes... i thought the gardai's purpose was to protect all citizens. Not just politicians. That garda should be brought to court. Hes clearly abusing his power! Are you blind? Every other garda is doing what I would expect of them, standing theyre ground and not just going straight to the baton

No it wouldnt. The area directly outside the front door of the building is government property.

The AGS job is the protection of the citizens of this country and the property of this country.

Similar to the other thread on the riots, the action of this Guard was pre-emptive,he actions proved to be a detterent to the others in that protest, they soon backed off,and the need for further baton us was nullified.

I guess you are one of those who will never need the gardai but I bet you would phone them if your house was robbed.

    I'd promote him to Sergeant.

I'd make him an Inspector only he didn't kick the gimp hard enough.

....which is the kind of reasoning we can expect from a man whose main contribution to this board is musings on his bowel motions....

Of course I'll phone them, that doesn't take from the fact they are overpaid.

I said they tried. I didn't say they succeeded.

In the thread title you used the plural 'Gardai' now you're changing your focus to one Garda. Which is it?

Also are you still saying it was a peaceful protest?

Wouldnt it have been terrible if the traffic cop had rammed his helmet into O Snodaighs face and broken it!

Those helmets are fierce expensive and we just cant afford to replace them in this climate.

I wouldnt mind but all this hassle just because O Snodaigh left the keys to his office at home!!! :D

What is the problem with a Garda using his baton to protect himself and property??
    .

Its more than a bit odd the Gardai to his left and right didn't feel the need to lay in similarily though, isn't it?

I didn't see any property being attacked.

    Put yourself in their shoes.

    You have them on?

Ok, what would you do if someone phoned you up and said - "Someone broke into my car"?

My car got broke into - My wallet and SatNav was stolen. I never rang the guards because I knew there was little or nothing they could do.

What you would like them to do and what you want them to do are 2 completely different things.

    1 Garda =/= all Gardai

However in the case of this motorbike garda there should be an investigation.

Exactly. There's no sense in defending one bad apple for the sake of upholding the good names of all other Gardai.. that's just as silly as using the actions of that one bad apple to define all other members of AGS

    No it wasn't.

If I had been that cop I would have left O'Snodaigh with a row of clean gums.

ya kinda thought that was what you were supposed when that happened, you know, as a civilian. The real question there is what are they supposed to do when that happens.....im pretty sure its not have a sit down and drink some tea

And you'd be tossed out of the force as a thug, and rightly so.

You offered them tea while they took the details, yes?

What did you expect them to do, call out the Garda helicopter to go after your CD player?

Some people watch far too much TV.

If you didn't want them to drink their tea then why did you offer it?

Oh wait! Did the cops baton charge your house and force you to make them a cuppa?
