Grrens have called an election, this could be good for us. Gov will use recruitment for votes

of course they will, theyll promise us the sun, moon and stars, but do you think they will follow through on it? I dont think a new governement will make one bit of difference. They are all working with the same resources.

The Greens want the election held in second half of January and the Dail will have to be dissolved three weeks beforehand so if this Govt. is to bring us in they would want to get a move on.
They could have an intake just before they leave..Govt's always make positive announcements before an election.
I'd say the G.E will be end of January Govt. will stay in power as long as they can.

lads, could be GE before x mas. this is good news alright. hopefully some wheel will start turning. it may be a case that the next political party may not be much better but change is always good and more so in this current stagnant situation.

It looks increasing unlikely that FF won't get budget through as their majority is under serious threat from within their own party and Independent TD's...new Govt. could be formed within few weeks and they will put the budget through and four year plan,in fact,Brian Cowen might call G.E this evening.I can't see us been offered place by a new Govt. next year, just my opinion.I would like to wish everyone all the best..I'm quitting boards and moving on..we were so close and yet so far.best of luck everyone!

Now there's going to be a general election, we know what to say to the polititions who will be coming to our doors looking for votes!

I was told something horrific at the weekend. The army recently recruited 40 people in cork and they will be starting in a few weeks. But there was already a panel in place from 2 years ago before the embargo and this panel was scrapped completely. I was told this from an instructor in the army and he was savage that this happened because he has a nephew who was orginally accepted 2 yrs ago but wasn't this time around. Hopefully something similar doesn't happen us. I know Ahern has made statements that the current panel will be kept but his word has been proven to be unreliable as of late.

Ondarack.... The army is totally different...Age limits are lower! Fitness is a big thing in the army.. And if you must know.. it was me who put that info up here in the 1st place a few weeks ago. there is also a panel of 80 more on the books in the southern brigade for 2 more platoons after the new year!

Waiting game i was just about to blast you for your negativity and then saw your second post! Started my new job today, i like it and everything but it's hard to be enthusiastic when i'm not in the job i want to be in. Chins up people we might be in the sh1t economically but we can always look back on our wait with a laugh in 30 years when one of us is being named commissioner! :p

i'm very sorry, i'm not a regular poster to this so i didn't see your post. In my opinion the army is not as different as you make out. Why could they not offer the people who were already on the panel a chance to redo meds and physicals if they were still interested.

do, no point staying around for something that might not happen for a long time + paying for this mess in the meantime. its just as easy to come back, get a chance to do something different as you said, remember the gardai isnt just for christmas. you'll never get another chance and alot of gards say it is they only thing they regret, not travelling/ taking a year out before joining im lucky as iv just started college so iv something to keep me occupied for now. :)

All I know is that the TD I spoke to only last week was assured the panel is still safe and Dermot Ahern will bring us in when he has funding. There is no such thing as a guarantee but I hope to God we are called in the new year before even the G.E is held.
The G.E could be held in early March by the time the legalitive procedures of the budget are enacted despite Greens wish to have it late January.
Hopefully Dermot Ahern will make an announcement of an intake pre election for votes.
Like Shakin,I'm taking a step back from it..if I'm called great if not, its not the end of the world.:D

good find podsie.....I think it was Ruairi88 that pointed this out last week and now the GRA are highlighting it.
    Hopefully Ahern sees it

Got to say. That article is really good. And is the first really concrete thing that we have seen in a while where recruitment has actually been thrown out there aswell as deficincies in the force. Though nowhere in the article does it mention us who are already in the panel waiting!. should we actually contact the GRA ourselves about this? and see where they stand on us?

thats a good idea about getting onto GRA. I got info from a good source that said there are no plans for recruitment in 2011. now i know that can change with the recent events in the government situation.

I was reading this article aswell in the examiner today and it did strike me that there was no mention of those of us waiting on the panel. That was kind of worrying, getting on to gra sounds like a good idea to let them know about us ready and waiting to redo our meds pcts and head in the gates of templemore. Was talking to a member of the force who is near retirement and said depending on budget there could be a mass exodus. He also said that the force will definately be reduced in the next few years but recruitment would still have to take place

I've spoken to members of GRA and they said there was meant to be intake of 100 from our panel going in this year, obviously it didn't happen. They don't know anymore than that.My TD informed me that talk of the panel being scrapped was just rumours.
If Dermot Ahern stands by his word we'll be in Templemore next year before change of Govt.
.:DAlso,I believe the 100 new recruits mentioned in article refers to current panel.

Jesus, this is seriously heart breaking to read that they genuinly are trying to decieve the people by mascarading reservists as more Gardaí on the streets.

Absolutely disgraceful! I suppose there over dependence to brag about numbers has led to Us finding out just what they are! It's evident on the streets about how low Garda numbers are!

Someone mentioned Cork defense forces taking on They took on 40 in the western brigade 6th infantry bat in Athlone also. Said it before I'll say it again why does the government see the need to recruit soldiers when (A) We are not engaed in any peace keeping missions and (B) we are not facing outside aggression. Well at least we get an insight into whats really happening and fair play to the media for highlighting the issue! I spent a solid week going through Garda numbers and I got to the point were I realized they were lying and I'm just your average Joe Soap I mean how did they expect to fool the media who have people with Hawk eye vision?

Cut in public service staff by 24,750. This brings it back to 2005 levels
