Why have RTE employed a 15 second time delay on the bailout announcement?

sending complaints to RTE is pointless, you will just get a polite PFO. It's a closed shop.

You need to send them here:

    http://www.bai.ie/broadcasting_complaints.html

It's a little more work, but very satisfying

Edit: As for the 15 second delay, if you are watching on Sky this has always been the case. Sky News comes direct from Sky. RTE however first has to send the signal to Sky and then Sky forward it to homes causing a delay. It's possible they delay the analog signal as well to keep everything in line.

What  I was watching it on terrestrial channel, the signal wasn't being sent via Sky.

RTE obviously had a profanity delay on thats the point, they wouldn't usually have it on say Pat Kenny's Frontline so why did they employ it tonight.

My point is why did the Irish nation have to be protected from news from their own government by their own broadcaster while the rest of the Europe were not subjected to such treatment by their broadcastors - its shocking

Curious.....I get a "seek failed" error.

Maybe it was indeed a "profanity delay".....I mean, if anyone was to ask Cowen some actual questions about why he lied all last week he was likely to mutter "those f*ckers".......

The delay isn't really what we should be concerned about. What is most troubling is the fact they cut off Vincent Browne's questioning of Brian Cowen half-way through for no apparent reason. Meanwhile, BBC and Sky continued to broadcast the remaining 2/3 minutes of the interview. It's absolutely disgraceful on RTE's part.

Try again. It appears to be the full press conference. Lenihan did not look one bit happy towards the end. Keep an eye on his body language and facial expressions.

BBC news just showed an ambulance outside government buildings, some poor protester just got minced by a ministerial merc.

Yes we should be concerned about the delay- its there to censor information - why should our national broadcastor employ this strategy?
It doesn't feel the need to do this on the Late Late show, Frontline, etc. These programmes have audience partcipation so it would be possible to argue for a delay, but there was no reason to employ it tonight except for censorship reasons.

Why can I watch something sooner on a foreign channel relating to my own country.

The fact that they cut off the interview is of course also wrong

    RTE are a thundering disgrace.

Not just all of a sudden, either. Turdity, Finucane and the rest are overpaid useless toeing-the-line disconnected lazybrained wastes of space of the highest order.

Good idea - however not everyone can get or afford to get to Dublin so maybe everyone should protest in their own city or town.

Will we see this on RTE?

At least the foreign stations are not hiding news from us.

Sky showed protesters attacking cars leaving and a female garda being shoved in onto the ground in front of one of the cars by the 'poor protesters'. Appears to be the shell to sea crowd.

Vincent Browne on now. Government ministers "declined" to come on.

Can anyone confirm that the Vincent Browne questions were cut from the live RTE broadcast? Was it an arbitrary cut or did it coincide with the end of the schedule? Was the cut immediately before Vincent Browne or was it cut some time earlier?

The full questioning from Vincent Browne is here: http://www.tv3.ie/shows.php?request=tonightwithvincentbrowne&tv3_preview=

I watched this all on BBC News anyway. It only got interesting (worthwhile) when Browne's questions began to go in. There was something so satisfying knowing that the international media were all covering this hard-hitting line of questioning.

To cut off Vincent Browne. Sky News is still live and RTE cut him off mid-interview.

Censorship not seen like this outside of maybe China.

I'm annoyed I didn't think that our troubles would be live news for two foreign broadcast networks.

Vincent Browne was indeed cutoff by RTE.

Let's not forget the history between Browne and RTE.

Meh listened to the interview there. More of a rant than a grilling. Of little importance really. Little info there worth hearing other than Vincent Browne just getting angry. He has his own show as a platform, I don't see why RTE need to give him even more. I'd say it has less to do with censorship and more to do with Vincent Browne not being well liked by RTE.

I'd also dispute the RTE bias argument given Brian Dobson's grilling of Mary Hanafin tonight on The Week in Politics (first half is worth watching on RTE player, paid little attention to the second half) and how much time was given to both Opposition members to grill her at length, taunt her and so on.

Now that the state broadcaster RTE has finally shown some interest in our disasterous finanical affairs this evening, why are they 15 seconds behind every one else?

RTE were late because they only cut to the press conference after it had started,

they were still showing bloody Fair City when Cowen had started speaking.

Your licence fee being put to good use there.

Protesting on Saturdays is very civilized indeed, no disruptions, everybody can attend, etc.

There is no doubt in my mind that it was cut because Browne began to question the Taoiseach. The sudden link back to the studio when his voice was heard made this all too obvious.

Regardless of the history between RTÉ and Browne or anyone elses opinion of him or his method of asking questions, it is shameful that our national broadcaster did not cover a press conference of such importance in full.

They had the rest of the evening to give us the expert opinion of the panelists in the studio.

It wasn't just 2 foreign networks who carried it. It was on Bloomberg, France 24, Al Jazeera, RT TV (Russian), CNN, Indian TV and several more.

It's now on Youtube. I can't get it to embed on this page
