If it involves over dramatic acting when you are hit, then I would like to apply.

It doesn't matter if it's drama, or ego stroking or dick waving - it's a
discussion. People are free to opt out if they want to.

The point I'm trying to make is that the poster is responsible for his post, so take action against the post and poster - not the thread.

It's become a mantra with me, but I firmly believe there is almost no xcuse to lock a thread. And this new idea that the thread starter has the option to ask for a thread to be locked ? Utter bull**** IMO.

People see that thread as a airsoft dicussion?

I'm not speaking for Tony but I wasn't on about that thread, those types of threads have always popped up. I'm talking about other threads that have been locked because they've 'run their course' etc. and also posts being deleted.

Look at this thread, it's become SFW now... 3 years after being opened...ignoring the fact the 800+ pages that got along fine and being allowed to run relatively freely.

I've got no real stake here, I've been on here three years and would class it as home when I'm online given that the forum is always open when I'm on a computer. If people want to let it go to sh1t fine, I'll just go to Arnies or another forum as others will but its a disgrace imo to see the forum go this way.

Yes, just to clarify - I'm not specifically talking about the 2FM thread - that just lit the touchfuse. I'm complaining about arbitrary threadlocking in general.

2fm thread has been re-opened after discussion between the mod team.

How buggy is Fallout New Vegas for PC? I was told it was the less buggy of all the platforms.
Going to get it tomorow. Can't wait any longer :p

Try asking in the fallout forum... oh wait.

Look at the bethesda or Obsidian forums, I have been waiting to get the game so they iron out the bugs, and I'm toying with the idea of getting a gaming PC to play rather than a failbox version.

Fallout New Vegas crashed 4 times within 20 mins. This is going on the shelf until a patch comes out :(

There is two out already AFAIK, they still don't fix everything though.

The game crashes more for some than others though depending what you are doing and how you are doing it.

Even today I can't play Morrowind without it crashing every half hour or so. I had about 10 different PC configurations since that came out but it runs fine for most people.

Does off topic mean you can't talk about Airsoft?

Nothing will ever compare to STALKER: Clear Sky.

They are two completely different games.
Going to reinstall New Vegas later. Im also going to try it in a computer with an ATI card. Never know.....:)

I'm talking about it's ability to crash. I have never played STALKER longer than a couple of minutes due to it. It's a travesty.

So it can be ignored ? Or maybe I should take it to Feedback so all the Boards mods can weigh in and rally round and support each other without a clue as to what the complaint is really about ?

No, I wont. I wont shut up about this, and I wont take it to feedback and I wont PM you or the OP about it - I'll discuss it here, publicly, where the entire community who contribute to this forum can see it and take part in the discussion.

If you want me to shut up about this, then ban me. But I've been a part of this community a hell of a lot longer than most people here, and I'm not going to be intimidated by the threat of a ban, and I wont just sit back and be told to go sit in a corner and be quiet.

I am a user and contributor to this forum and I wont be told to shut up just because it doesn't suit you to discuss your improper moderation decisions in public. That attitude has driven away countless well respected community members over the past 12 months, and its time it stopped.

So do your worst if you have to, but rest assured I wont be shutting up about this until the stupidity is addressed and this forum is given a chance to get back to the way it should be.

    Fair play to you Tony.

Here's an idea for the mod team... Andy, please take this one back to them, they didn't pay any attention last time.

When a thread goes to sh1t, put a note in it, lock it for a few hours to let everyone cool down, while it's locked clean it up and use the banhammer if necessary, and then reopen it.

Closing threads permanently and shutting off discussion is what's annoying people. You're in effect throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Or, for a navigation example, returning to base and starting again every time you get lost instead of stopping, getting a fix on your position, correcting and moving on.

Temporary locks - done transparently - work fine in lots of other places. It's time to try it here.

Lads, just watching the news, I reckon we've all got far bigger problems than locked threads!

    Good idea though...

Take a look at the thread in question it has been back open for two days .

It is a pity that these suggestions only come after there has been a lot of discontent, and that compounds the issues people have. It IMO is because we are a small community that often know each other in real life, and as such people are less open with criticisms and so on out of not wanting to criticise really.

The above post by Ozcam is a great suggestion, and it gave me an idea while considering the above nature of the airsoft forum. We all feel a certain ownership of the forum, we know each other, play together and the style of operating the forum should reflect that.

Why not have a feedback thread, where suggestions like the one by Ozcam and previous ones on this topic can be put. An actual thread would encourage discussion, people would see an active movement towards improvement of the forum and acknowledgement of their input. It would maybe entice people back here who have left and improve the atmosphere of the forum.

Moderation policy and moderators don't have to be infallible, they just have to be accountable. I imagine it is hard to gauge what is too much interference and what is too little, as a tightly knit community based forum I think that community input should always be encouraged and actively sought out.

Feedback threads (not in feeback, only hardcore boards users go there and piss it all up without the context of being an airsofter, we want airsofters input) are precedented, there is one in after hours for example, a very big part of boards.

Give the community input into the policies of the forums running and you also share with them the responsibility for the forums quality. I think this could work, it could be kept in place even after now, as in the past the users here have rallied to have a say in moderation policy here. I think it would help the moderators shape policy, share responsibility with the users, let the users who have made the forum what it is feel ownership of it and get people back on enjoying themselves, and there will always be a way to allow the forum to evolve. Share the burden of policy making.

Get off your high horse and actually listen to an excellent suggestion. If you use your noodle and follow his advice you might find there's less complaining around here, and you won't end up modding a forum with 5 users.

That arrogant attitude of mod infalibility is part of the problem. You don't own this forum - WE DO. You just moderate it.

I guess I now know the answer to the question "what does it take to get rid of The Brians" - an IMF bailout!

Sorry - I should just head over the politics forum.

Back on topic - brap brap.

It's the your style of moderating Andy, its how threads are locked willy nilly once someone starts being a tit, OzCam's suggestion is brilliant, at the very least, try it for a while, as has been said many times, we're losing some of the oldest members of the airsoft community and the forum is going downhill, I for one would not like to see users like Shiva, Puding, OzCam, Dex, etc leaving the forum, they are very knowledgable users and their prescense here is a huge help to the community.
