Does anyone know if Fair City give much work to "extras". I saw this article/advert today mentioning tv extra work - they say "do you fancy having a pint in McCoys in Fair City".

    http://www.jobsguideireland.com/work-as-a-film-or-tv-extra-in-ireland/

Anyone here tried it - or know anyone that has?

I know someone who has and got a lot of work out of it, Fair City don't directly employ you though.

Thanks - I might register just for a laugh.:) There is a fee - but if I even get one bit of work out of it that should cover it.
Does that person you know get on screen much?

I know a couple of people who do it regularly. It involves a lot of hanging around, but it seems to be a decent paying gig. They also get a couple of days on other programmes occasionally. One of them was on Raw, I think, and they both got a couple of days in costume on Camelot.

Sometimes the notice is very short, for some reason. You might get called on a Sunday to turn up somewhere on Monday morning. But if you're not available, you just say no. It seems like a great way to pick up some money from time to time.

Angel01 is right about Fair City not employing extras directly. They have a contract with movieextras, and they supply whoever is needed.

They are, I laugh to myself when I see her on screen, she gets on most weeks! She gets a bit of work on other RTE shows as well. You should go for it :)

I would love to do it but I am in a full time job so couldn't spare the time.

Carmel Callan is one of the Fair City writers who has a few fans here. She's just won an award for a very sweet short film, which you can find here:

No Fair City actors in it, though.

That's a great interview - I'd prefer to see a few more of these rather than the ask the cast interviews. Also it'd be great to have these as video interviews - if you look at the Ros na Rún or Hollyoaks websites (don't know about the other soaps, so just using those as examples) they've got video interviews with the cast which just adds to it a bit more...

I would like to see Laura Halpin's character back in FC too. She went off to Galway to stay with her auntie and concentrate on her Leaving Cert. She has not been seen or heard of since. She was played by Ruth Gilligan who obviously has no plans to come back

They could easily bring her character back in Damien's hour of need. If I was her I would be straight onto the solicitor to make sure that Suzanne has no right to the Halpin house (after I called the locksmith to change the locks of course):D

Did one of the lads not mention her there last week?

I think Sarah Flood is doing a great job portraying Suzanne, because everytime she appears on screen, i feel like throwing the remote control at the tv...

I'd say they'll recast her eventually, there's plenty of untapped storylines there.

I would love to see some of these as well as the ask the cast because at least that way I can ask the things that I want to know.. video interviews would be brilliant too.. will suggest it to the fair city office :)

+1 for getting Laura back, Damien needs all the support he can get! I wasn't too keen on the actress either but it's been so long a recast shouldn't be too problematic.
    Loving this Damien/Suzanne storyline! :)

Well, I watched the repeat today. Have only been tuning in from time to time recently, due to the hype roused by the Suzanne/Damo storyline. A few nights back was impressed (in that I felt uncomfortable by witnessing it) the abuse scence with the shovel. But what i saw today was utterly woeful. Awful acting.

Do you want mustard with your ham, anyone?

    Review of the week!

Finally, in Fair City, Suzanne took to using some more household utensils to beat the living daylights out of her hubby. With the entire community convinced it was Damo who was the wife beater (thanks to Suzanne's bandaged wrist), word spread fast, thanks to Sarah, that things weren't right at the Halpin household. But, it all came to a head when Mark walked in and saw his brother getting a wallop from Suzanne.

He ran off, as it probably brought back memories of seeing his mother and father all those years ago. As he sat in the park, Judith conveniently happened to be walking by and provided a shoulder for young Mark to lean on. By the end of the week, Damien was rescued. Hooray, but it wasn't the nicest of scenes, he had his big belly hanging out, so if you missed it, you had a lucky escape. Desperate to get Philip a job, Dermot asked Louie to give him one, but he would foot the wage bill.

His first few shifts didn't go well in The Hungry Pig and in McCoy's it didn't seem to go swimmingly either, mainly due to a few run ins with Leo. However, the week ended well as Louie allowed him display his 'art work' in the pub. Finally, Keith was horrified that Sarah set Orla up with Finn.

If they got another actress to play the part, I think it'd be great to have the character back, but not the same actress.

you'll probably get your wish - this is Fair City after all.

Fair City is the lamest soap RTE has ever produced. It has crap production values, dire acting, and dull storylines. It is so parochial minded, with nothing original, and full of stagey performances, how it has lasted so long is beyond belief.

Welcome to the Fair City Thread it's great to read different view points. I fancy Keith (the character not the actor) - best to get that out of the way.

I know he's under-age and I could be his older sister (okay his mother then...) I'm a liking Philip and not in the "I'll cook you a hot meal" way - it's more in the sliding down the bannisters naked shouting "Philip I'm keeping your dinner warm" type of way. Sorry Keith.

Well, there's an image burned into my brain for the weekend. :D

Took RTE a lot of time to issue such warning and to give help lines at the end, or did i just miss them.
