Philip could be 18. Not sure if he is. The minimum wage reduction could be applied to anyone upon their first job.

Last week, he told Jo & Dermot he was 16 and was not going to go home and would not be fostered by them.

    From the Fair City site:

Jo and Dermot's dreams of becoming foster parents finally come true.
However, Jo hasn't bargained on how difficult an angst ridden, vodka swilling teenager can be.

Philip O'Connor arrives at Jo and Dermot's home, a damaged 15 year old boy whose world, so far, has been a succession of disappointments. He has spent a great deal of his young life in foster care. Repeatedly mistreated by his parents, he is initially withdrawn; slow to trust, and cynical about adults and authority figures.

Philip was born in 1995 and has been in and out of care since childhood. Philip adored his father, despite the man's heroin addiction and when he died when Philip was five, Philip was devastated. Philip was left to the mercy of his mother, a habitual drunk. Philip's life revolves around either living with his mother, or being placed in emergency foster care when his mother is hospitalised for alcohol related illnesses and injuries.

Can Dermot and Jo give the stability Philip needs? Or will it be too much strain on Ben, and their happy home life?

Philip is played by Gary Nolan.

Hello all, I'm new here! *waves*

I'm absolutely HOOKED on the Suzanne/Damien storyline, they're amazing actors! I find the storyline genuinely affects me, and that's a sure sign of great delivery! I get SO frustrated that Damo just takes the abuse from her though!

Can't stand Philip, wish he would open his mouth a bit when he talks! And loving the new Ben :) so cute, and a big step up from the last useless Ben who kept looking directly at the camera and never spoke, God love him!

Hi Bubbles :) nice to meet you and jump aboard the Fair City ship :D

The storyline is very gripping and I agree a sure sign that we are all hooked on it, I find it captivating and on the edge of my seat to see if other people will find out. It is very hard to watch but that is the sign that both Mac and Sarah are doing a fine job with the storyline.

I do like the new Ben, he is very cute and seems to get a few more lines to say! I think Philip is a great character, he has a great dry wit and I love that. His scenes with Louie were really good!

Thanks Angel :D I find myself watching the Suzanne/Damo scenes through the gaps in my fingers, it really is horrific!

I'm seeing Philip come out of his shell more and more as the weeks go on, hopefully I'll learn to love him. I hated Neassa when she started out and now I can't get enough of her!

I think Philip is great, his scenes with both Leo and Louie were brilliant and I love his scenes, he provides some good comedy which is always welcome.

It really is difficult to watch isn't it and the way that some jumped to the conclusion because of Damien's father, they just presumed he would harm Suzanne. Just goes to show how easily people jump to conclusions :(:(

It was rumoured that he attacked Suzanne, badly scripted though I must admit. Remember he sacked Bob also for no good reason either :(

    Here is from my spoilers:

Mark tries to persuade Damien to leave Suzanne. In Halpins, Suzanne leads Bela and Dolores to believe that Damien is hitting her. Dolores decides to stay with her and not leave her on her own. Deegan argues with Jennifer about her requesting a transfer to Galway without talking to him about it first. Dermot demands to Louie that he cut Philip's wage.

Dolores comes face to face with Damien and verbally abuses him for beating up Suzanne. Mark sticks up for him and tells her and Leo to mind their own business. Leo fires Damien. Philip aggravates Leo by calling him 'Daddy’ and giving him ‘lip’. Louie demands that he apologise to Leo. Damien tells Mark he is going back on his own to the house to collect his things. Ray asks a quiet Deegan if he wants Jennifer to stay or not.

Suzanne catches Damien packing his clothes. She tells him no-one will believe him and slaps his face. He breaks under her abuse and unpacks his bags. She then demands that he convince Mark that things are okay. He tries to persuade Mark that it was him who beat her. Dolores tries to tell Ray that it is him who adores Jennifer. Mark faces Suzanne and tells her he won't give up on Damien. He tells Damien that he has to leave her for his mum.

Philip gets the sack for rubbing ketchup in Doug's shirt and insulting Leo again. But he sells Louie a caricature of himself. Suzanne brings Damien to the doctors with her and he tells Judith that he beat Suzanne. She realises that Judith doesn’t believe it and they leave. Jennifer spots a fearful Damien being led down the street by Suzanne.

Philip blackmails Leo for €50 saying he got him fired. He arrives back to Dermot's home and tells them he knew about the arrangement and gives them €100 and a bottle of wine. He announces he’s going to be a full-time artist. Suzanne accuses Damien of deliberately trying to shame her in front of Judith and beats him.

I think they have added some age to his character cos I am sure he is meant to be 16.

Fair City is the lamest soap RTE has ever produced. It has crap production values, dire acting, and dull storylines. It is so parochial minded, with nothing original, and full of stagey performances, how it has lasted so long is beyond belief.

You must have watched it to gather those views :D Take a look at the ratings, that might give you an indication of why it has lasted so long ;)

You can say the same for most soap operas. I don't see how it is parochial it deals with issues that effect many people not just in Ireland. Its a soap its never going to be original. Like many soaps Fair City has some good actors and some bad ones, I could list of all of the problems that soap has in general but it would be quite a rant which isn't need for this thread.

personally I dont remember any other soaps doing a storyline like Damien & Suzanne.

Soaps are not always original but I think Fair City is wonderful, I like nearly all of the cast (bar one or two...), I think sometimes the camera work leaves a little to be desired but on the whole, thumbs up from me :)

Can't wait to see that sanctimonious pr*ck Bela being proved wrong.

So why is Suzanne beating Damien up?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,718 ✭✭✭✭JonathanAnon

ah I think this Damo/Suzanne story has gone on too long, and is not really believable any more... Not that it really was in the first place.. Actors are only passable, Mark version 2.0 isnt great..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 919 ✭✭✭RVD420

Couple of plot holes tonight..... Why did Suzanne look at Louie like he had 2 heads when he suggested she moved in with him for safety....only a couple of weeks ago he was stopping her "advances"....

Bela suggesting he's gonna get the Bishops onto Damo... Surely Bela remembers a couple of Halloweens ago when Damo went all "Citizen" on the Bishops, they wouldnt stand a chance against him :D

Damo has some baps on him!

I agree re. mark. I'm not buying him at all in this story. I can see him "acting" like Felix, although he is Robert De Niro in comparison to Felix!
