im not sure about the new range of processors and such. how come celerons and pentiums are still on sale? should i stay away from these? i need to help a friend buy a laptop and she is even more clueless than me. she needs it for college, photo editing, video editing and music, movies etc. she will be encoding videos too i think. no games and a budget of 5-600 euro. windows 7 probably best i think and she has been looking at dell and likes them:) but can change her mind i think if i get a better offer. thanks in advance:) oh yeah dont care about buying online either

New core range from intel yet another big step forward, best performance vs value seems to be i5 which will come in handy for photo/video editing this has gpu on processor so no dedicated chip needed but prob recommended, but also u prob need 4 gig ram and 15+ inch screen with as high resolution as u can afford. Look at websites such as saveonlaptops.co.uk or laptopsdirect.ie, ebuyer.com, some nice dells on ebay.ie at minute too.

thanks think it was a case of asking a question before reading up on it cos there's loads of stuff about this on the net:) i have been looking at an i3 acer which is 540 in argos. think she prefers to buy off a shop she can go into but i'll have a look at some of them shops you listed and let her know. i would have advised her to get an i5 but on dell and komplett they up near the 700 mark:( too dear
