Its only a matter of time before they take over the countries finances....
I would love to see them cut the bóllóx out of all the pensions that our deserving  leaders have given themselfs down through the years...
Those prícks in Lenister Hse with their Ministerial pensions, TD pensions, senate pensions, EU commissioner pensions, and of course the expenses along with God knows what else they claim!

Simply put...Massive pensions, expenses paid to serving politicians are a "gravy train" the country can no longer afford- roll on IMF

I would love their pensions and salary to be cut. Really what are they being paid for, they have gotten our country into serious debt, our children have debt and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

We are mugs. Maybe as another poster said we should stop paying tax. See how'd they'd survive.

    "roll on IMF"

That statment is naive in the least.

The reality is ifthe IMF did come and run the country it would be the least well off that would suffer the most as they are the ones that are the greatest expense on the state.

The IMF come, look at where they can make the greatest saving the fastest and cut it, and essentially thats you and me.

You take a 100,000 pension from an already rich person, he survives - you take 50 quid from someone on the breadline - they can go hungry...

The IMF dont care and wont care about what the people want.. the care about the bottom line, and if they actually were to not cut but scrap all TD's etc pensions AND salaries it wouldnt even bring about a significant dent in our overspending.

Its all about scale. There are alot more lower income and middle class people than there are very wealthy people. If you take 100,000 off 50 people you dont get as much as if you take 50 euro off 500,000 people

As opposed to what will happen if FF, FG or Labour make the cuts?

    I don't think so!

I actually disagree, I think the IMF might actually be fairer!

Which is worse OAP taking small hit or home help being cut. Or Croke Park?

Despite what many people think, the politicians are ultimatley answerable to the electorate.

Lab/FF/FG will have to make cuts, but they choose where and how.

Its like this - say you lost your job and you were finding it hard to run your household and feed your children, you will have to make decisions to cut expenses, you ultimatley need to at least balance income with expenses, you can got to MABS and get assistance on how to best cut expenses.. cut down on SKY packages, reduce phone contract, look for interest only on your mortgage, buy the children dunnes finest instead of Nike, get them Mr actionman generica instead of a PS3 that you promised them.
If for example the Bank had the power to control your spending and essentially run your home, they will make sure that you make your bank payments and essentially "f**k the rest" No sky, no phone and no gifts at all for christmas, and the money left over goes for food so you dont die..just.

The IMF sounds nice, we as Irish, seem to always have trust in foreign forces outside our own, but our own fate is better controlled by ourselves, as the consequences are what we will have to deal with.

Simply put, ive ten fingers, if i have to cut 3 of them off, i want to choose the hand and fingers myself.

We're not able to make the hard decisions we need to which is why the IMF will be coming in.

Plus the IMF will allow you to choose the hand and fingers yourself.

If the IMF comes into Ireland, it will probably look something like what they did in Romania.
Public sector wages will be cut by 25% and all salaries, including the minimum one, will be affected. Jobless benefits and pensions will be slashed by 15%.

Romania is the recipient of a 20bn-euro aid package from the IMF, the EU and the World Bank.

The country, as well as two other bailed-out states, Latvia and Hungary, have missed targets for cutting their deficits by significant margins.

"This [cuts] plan was inevitable," Mr Basescu told a news conference.

"The state sector is like a fat man of 200 kg sitting on the back of a 50 kg little man who is the real economy."

He also said that as part of negotiations with the IMF the country had narrowly avoided an increase in VAT from 19% to 24% and a rise in the tax on profits and income to 20% from 16%.

If the IMF comes in I guarantee you the following within 5 years:
    • TD Salaries slashed Yay!
    • Full 3rd Level Fees with Maintenance Grants Scrapped
    • Dole and State Pensions slashed if not eliminated
    • Medical Card Scraped
    • Corporate Tax Hike
    • Export Tariffs on Irish goods
    • Flight of Multinationals from the Emerald Isle
    • Increase in all taxes and rates - small and medium business crippled
    • Education, Health etc slashed
    • Massive Public Sector Lay-offs
    • Massive Public and Private Debt
    • Privatisation like that would make Margeret Thatcher look like Che Guevara

If we don't get our house in order, if the lenders lose faith in our ability to repay our debt we are bust! Our beautiful nation and people will be in poverty for a hundred years! It hurts now but it’s for the best - it’s not like we're manning the parapets in the GPO with the Helga pounding us - a cut in living standards is the sacrifice we must endure for our nation’s future! The front loading of the cuts-to-come by the Government is encouraging in that it sends a strong positive message to International Markets.

what about simply rioting? Anyone forgot the greeks protesting 'We are not Irish'????

Guards I spoke with after the Dublin student fiasco were appalled with the dogs and horse corraling - when the politicians and IMF realised it wasn't on after a riot or two then some sense might previal.

Even peaceful protests outside TD offices if and when they present themselves might force some rethink ...

Not going to happen because you're forgetting on crucial fact that is ever over looked on these boards. The IMF can't MAKE a country do anything. If the come in, the result will be exactly what's already happening, cuts in excess spending.
