I'm sure your all horrified by the videos of people coming down the street with Blood on their faces but to be honest, 99% of the people who got a wallop from the cops deserved it. The police riot squad went in to maintain control and did just that.

God help any protester if the army riot squad ever get called in. Those guys psych themselves up for blood.

They didn't get hit. If you watch all the videos you can see that the people with the blood are the ones that were thrown into the crowds from the Dept of Finance.

I don't care who apparently started what. I witnessed a lot of heavy handedness by the guards today and before the riot cops got out of the three vans I was told by a traffic cop...

"move, we're going to get violent"
I started laughing and he came back with "you wont be smiling when you get hurt".

Have the whole thing on video. Also overheard a fire man telling a cop that they needed to stop hitting people.

Seen a 17 year old knocked out, seen a female guard charge at an SU head for asking what direction they had sent people.

Complete disgrace on the guards behalf they looked amateur and panicked.

    upload it please

Fair play to the kids, they are going to have to pay for the bailouts like everyone else, we need to march on the dail in the hundreds of thousands to be heard, if it's violent so be it, they won't listen otherwise

All you people saying they are scumbags make me sick, NONE of us should be paying ANY bailouts, it's the banks & bondholders problem, not the people of Ireland. It's the scum in the Dail that have given away our sovereignty, they should pay, not us

Aye, and notice how their fellow protesters reached out to catch them as they were thrown forward so that they wouldn't fall on the ground... Lovely bunch.

Boo hoo. I went to a riot and people pushed me. Its not fair. You expected the Gardaí to be smiling while having to stand there getting objects and abuse hurled at them.

Just out of interest. If someone forced there way into your house and sat on the floor would you be happy if the Gardaí came up and said "Well we can't do anything because he's being peaceful."

there were people at that protest that werent involved in trouble yet get pushed and shoved around. it wouldnt be wrong if the gards showed some sort of human compassion and didnt tar every single protester with the same brush. This attitude of the gards are never wrong is too common in this country and thats evident in the papers, can only imagine what tomorrows headline will be ''ireland shame''.

    I also support the students.
People come on boards and say 'oh why don't we do something about this that and the other" and when people actually do, they are frowned upon.
Fair play to them. More groups should do they same as far as im concerned.

What do you expect Labour or FG to do? Have they won some secret international lottery?

Oh yeah, sure the country is so awash with jobs (full and part time), any potential student who can't afford to go to college can just pick up any one of these employment opportunities...or not.

I beg to differ, there are jobs just ones people feel they're too good for. I found weekend work no bother in a cafe in the morning and restaurant at night (suprise suprise I was the only Irish person there apart from the owners) and when I finished my course it took me only 2 months to find full time work. I admit my salary is lower than the job I left year - but I'm more than able to live on it, budget and it's a start into the area I want to further my career in.

I understand that people who are qualified in specific areas and looking for work in those areas are finding it almost impossible to find ideal jobs - however don't tell me there are NO jobs. However that'd be a debate for the work forumn.

So what do you expect to do protesting then.

Sounds like you just want a riot for the sake of it tbh.

Wow you seriously don't have a clue.

I am a mature student would left a job to return to college having worked everyday since I finished second level in 1998. I left work in 2007 to return to education by choice. I paid the higher rate of tax almost that entire time. I am not entitled to a grant even after several attempts so any increase in the fees will badly affect me.

Painting everyone with the same brush just goes to show your total lack of understanding of the real situation. You just come over as bitter and twisted and that is what is wrong with this country too many like you who prefer to complain and point fingers then get off you ass and do something about it.

What planet are you on? Everyone pays some tax in Ireland. Vat, Dirt, bank card charges are some of the universal taxes paid by rich, poor, young and old.

I find it amusing that in the first 5 seconds you can see someone throw something at the Gardaí. I have watched all videos posted about this incident (including Indymedia and Free Education website) and have yet to see one person struck with a baton or one Garda charging at anyone. The choice of music further shows what kind of protest was in the mind of the poster.

If you are in a group of people and half of them start throwing stuff at the police you leave the group. It's as simple as that. By staying around you are shielding the ones performing the criminal acts. The thousands of people in the main protest didn't cause any trouble and had no problems.

You said people finishing school who can't afford to go to college should get as job, or students should work part time. I never said there were no jobs, but there are not enough jobs to accommodate all those students who cannot afford college. The most vulnerable will lose out and will simply become more numbers on the live register.

Are you for real. It was a peaceful sit in protest and the police forcefully removed them and even stamped on their heads and the students reacted. Ya some came for trouble but they didnt start it - the police did. I say fair play to them we have been letting this government sh!t all over us for too long and its about time we got the fighting Irish spirit back.

The other option is to let them destroy the education system.

I was there and saw with my own two eyes a guy going around to students asking them if they wanted to join the socialist workers party. Then them and the scumbags sinn féiners congregated down beside the Department of Finance where a gang of riot police had already gathered. I really doubt that some of the Sinn Féin cohort carrying the flag were even in college, anyway. I mean some of the rioters were shouting "IRA IRA IRA!!" and "Fields of Athenry" in front of the Gardaí and basically being provocative. I saw some people through a few plastic bottles before any of the riot police had even raised their batons.

Fighting is not going to solve anything and paints a dirty uneducated image on the rest of students who were genuinely interested in the theme of the protest.

There you go again generalising people. You obviously have never gone to college and seen what it is like. A lot do part time work and work during the summer so do pay tax.

Without an educated work force you could say goodbye to the multinationals that come here. Even with the generous benefits from the government regards tax and other incentives, big multinationals require many new graduates each year.

There ya go, the Reds using an occasion to promote their failed agenda.

Immature students used as a ripe field to influence the failed politics and socialist agenda which seeks to beat down the the people who actualy want to achieve, and promote the wasters who want to enjoy the benefits of the state from cradle to grave.

    The game is up.

What a pile of utter morons. Do they actually think the government is going to fall because they attack the Gardaí?

People with no respect for the law need to be locked up and the key thrown away, and that means almost everyone in the frames of that video not wearing a badge.

Fair play to the Guards when that girl went to the ground they immediately managed to get everyone away, An mhaith.

@anyone who protested violently - get out of this ****ing country, you're not wanted.
