it also had a rant on the side of the bottle saying how bad the current beers on the market are and that thy were leading a beer revolution.

I reckon BeerNut is right, BrewDog, but it sounds like 5AM Saint. I stopped drinking BrewDog because the 5AM Saint label pissed me off so much. I used to think they were cool and a little 'kooky' or whatever, now I think they're just ****.

Thats it thanks, they had three or four different types. Any recomendation?

Pretty much everything from that Brewery is good.
I think the only one I'm not crazy about is Riptide Stout - a bit thin for my liking.
    I've not tried their lager.

    Hardcore IPA
    Punk IPA
    5 AM Saint
    Tokyo
    Thrash Blonde
    Paradox Stout
    Zeitgeist

    Are all fantastic beers imo

Paulaner - never had it before / 2.49 in tescos
Spaten - never had it before - / 179 in Aldi
Chimay - never had it before. I'l go easy with this its 7% alcohol.:pac: / 2.89 in Tescos

Had lots of Carlberg the other night, it did the trick for me, did not feel good yesterday though ( hic ).

Just had my first ever pint of Galway Hooker, not two miles from where it's made. It's just moved to the top of my favourite Irish beers list.
Will be heading out to JJ Harlow's later this evening, to enjoy some more (and sample some of the other micro brews they have available).

Saranac IPA really nice IPA and Great Divide Titan IPA which was also very nice. The 3 IPA's I have had from Saranac really impressed me.

Picked up four bottles of Thwaites Liberation Ale for €10 from Redmonds of Ranalagh this evening; it's close to my new favourite beer. A hint of fruit going for it and the malt isn't biting too much, it's subdued and smooth yet it is a very very present beer; one to be tried again.

I've been having the Duvel lately cause Tesco have it for 1.88, that's pretty good value for money! I've also been having the Maisel's Weisse Dunkelbier, 3 for 5 euro at my local offie, I enjoy that as well, good session beer.

I drank a large variety of quality beers this weekend but what stood out by a mile was the Chimay dark ale, the trappiste or trappist (shows how much i know:rolleyes:) it was incredible. Seriously the best beer ive ever tasted. Its a bit expensive at 2.89 but it really is worth every drop. Superb.;)

The Franziskaner was a bit of a disappointment having heard so much about it but maybe i hyped it a bit. Still a good brew though & good value at 1.79.

Paulaner, yeah i liked it a lot. mmmm... Leffe, nice beer, drinkable.

The biggest surprise was the 4 pack of Hoegaarden. I enjoyed it a lot. Really tastey, slightly cloudy pale ale, could have drunk it all night & at 4.99 a bargain.

The least enjoyable (but still drinkable) was the Innis & Gunn oak aged red ale. A lovely smokey smell but a slightly unpleasent aftertaste. Then again im new to red ales so give it time.
The Old Speckled Hen was definitely a red ale i could drink again. Really nice & smooth. A real winter ale.

But again the Chimay, hats off to the monks.:)

Speckled hen is very good. If you liked it, you should also try hobgoblin.

    Will do.:D

I seen it in dunnes when i was in getting the speckled hen. It was a choice between that & the hobgoblin, completely random decision. Im new to red ales. Have you tried the Innis & Gunn?

Yes, really good stuff. There's a triple matured version which is extremely good, and a rum cask version which I didn't like at all.

Planning to have a bottle of Belhaven Stout tonight, looking forward to it. Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, Belhaven is one of my favourite stouts. Nice, sharp and sweetish, not that bitter compared to other stouts of the same alc volume and very flavoursome.

    Enjoy.

    Yes it's very nice.
Full flavoured and slightly sweet and doesn't taste like the 7%abv that it is. Lovely after dinner drink with a bit of cheese or chocolate.

Picked up some tripel karmeliet, you wouldn't want to be drinking to many of them! 8% or so

So, roughly as much alcohol as a single glass of wine, then?

Fast coming to the conclusion that Fuller's can do no wrong. I had tried Golden Pride, 1845, and ESB ales and loved them all. Last night had a London Porter - great, bitter, chocolatey, stout-ish. :)

Have to agree about the Fullers range- love their london pride/porter & 1845 but golden pride is a bit too boozy for me.

It's full-on all right - I probably wouldn't drink more than a bottle at a sitting, or might share one; but I love the stuff!

Hmm, have a bottle of this waiting at home for me, be interesting to see how it goes so.

Have to disagree that Golden Pride is a magnificent beast!

Well played sir. You are correct. Ok the weihenstephaner is the hefe weissbier but hell you got em all.

I took a look in The Abbots Ale off licence in cork city & holy feck its got some choice of beers. 260 something i was told. friendly staff & everything lined up nicely to be plucked off the shelves. I was bamboozled a bit from the huge array of fine beers in stock but eventually made my choice. What a place it is. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

Also took a look in Bradleys on north main street & although not as many as abbots, it has a fine choice also. Both great offies.:)
