I would consider the President of Ireland as nothing more than a figurehead whose most important function is to act like a one man/woman Bord Failte promoting Ireland across the World.

They need to be intelligent, articulate and project a positive image of the country. I believe that David Norris ticks all those boxes and I would be proud to have him as our President if the majority vote that way.

They should also have a robotic exo-skeleton. How cool would that be. Everyone would want to invest in us then

It's the Magil article that gives me the creeps. Is it for real? It sounds like something from NAMBLA.

    http://sites.google.com/site/norrisarticle/

"In terms of classic paedophilia, as practised by the Greeks for example, where it is an older man introducing a younger man or boy to adult life, I think there can be something to be said for it. And in terms of North African experience this is endemic.
Now again, this is not something that appeals to me, although when I was younger it would most certainly have appealed to me in the sense that I would have greatly relished the prospect of an older, attractive, mature man taking me under his wing, lovingly introducing me to sexual realities, and treating me with affection and teaching me about life - yes, I think that would be lovely; I would have enjoyed that."

...in context its more like a 16-17 year old being attracted to men in their mid 20's.......Its not paedophilia either, as that refers to pre-pubescents, and his mistaken use of the term makes it appear hes referring to something far more dubious, unfortunately.

Yes I think that interview will cost him a lot of votes. He is a very intelligent fellow but I cannot see him gaining a necessary rural or older vote.

Not only that but he has something a lot of politicians lack, principles.
