Just having a Little Valley Stoodley Stout, had Tod's blonde before that but I thought it was only so so.

The Stoodley Stout is not bad though ... says something on the label about chocolate malt but I don't get any chocolate flavours which I don't mind at all ... also goes on about rich rosted flavours.

Starts off deep and rich allright and smooths out with a bit of sweet fruit and fades away into with what appears to be a smokey finish.

Think I'll have a Bowmore 12 with this

Yeah, it's so-so. Their IPA is quite good but the rest of the range were rubbish, I thought.

Girlfriend picked me up a six-pack of this (Schöfferhofer Eis-Kristall) in Germany yesterday.

I don't hold great expectations but I'm sure it will be palatable.

    Anyone tried it before?

Oh, memories. I think #9 was one of the first beers that woke me up to the fact that beer could... well, taste of something, when I came across it in Maine a few years back. I think it's my epiphany beer. Kicked off a good summer of taste exploration! :pac:

Did you pick the #9 up in Ireland? I'd be interested to see what I think of it now.
I'm afraid I had it in the JetBlue Terminal in New York JFK. It was the nicest beer of my trip, though I did have a Lagunitas IPA that was fantastic.

Wasn't the best IPA I have had was expecting a stronger hoppy flavour. It was average in everything about it.
So needed a hop hit so opened a Saranac Imperial IPA and I love it. Not overpowering but strong with a great bitter after taste.
The aftertaste lingers for a nice amount of time with malty slightly sweet taste.

Will be getting more of this in future.

I think it has some wheat in it too doesn't it? Was very disappointed by it when I had it tbh. Tonight i had a few hot whiskies and a crabbies, not even sure if its technically a beer but I like it a lot.

    Cathedral Quarter Beer x 2.

Nice and better than the ****e from Dungarven Brewery.

I think the Helvic Gold ****e and the Black Rock Stout ****e are both great (especially on cask).
Not crazy about the Copper coast ****e but it's not a bad beer - just not to my (clearly) ****e taste!

Had Young's Special and Young's gold on cask in Richmond - Gold is yumm (even Mrs. beer drank a half) Special was pretty good too!!

Not too impressed with Fuller's ESB or Chiswick Bitter (one of them was really horrible and the other was just bland - not sure which was which and I suspect one of them was a bit off).

Also had Doom Bar and King's Old Head in Sussex. Doom Bar is a pretty run of the mill cask bitter and King's Old Head is a very tasty seasonal dark ale.

Didn't find the favourite Timothy Taylor's Landlord but overall had a pretty good cask tasting few days!!

    :)

I only tried the Helvic Gold. I really wanted to like as I want breweries like this to do well but I found the taste just too full on. I couldnt enjoy it. Every sup was an effort for me but thats just my opinion. Everyone else I know who drank it seems to like it!!

I'll be heading to drinkstore this week and want to try an American lager this time, any tips which one to look out for?

I'm not much of a lager drinker so I'm of little use to you there.
I think you'll find that US lagers are remarkably similar to any other lagers.
Brooklyn lager is very nice but doesn't usually appeal to people who mostly drink only lager (a lot of flavour going on).

Had a few beers that i'd never tasted before this weekend.

Singha - Thai beer, pretty damn delicious. Wish i'd got more than 2. Not particularly cheap at 1.79 for 330ml - 8/10

Warsteiner - Its ok. Tastes a bit like Perllenbacher but its double the price. Probably won't bother with it again. 5/10

Staropramen - Its nice. Very clean & crisp, definitely quality. 2.25 for 500ml. 7/10

Zwyiec - had it before but its such a good allrounder I had to get a few. Can't go far wrong with this Polish favourite & its a very reasonable at 1.79 for 500ml.

The beer that impressed me the most this weekend was Singha. Its a refreshing alternative to the Polish & german brews. Not sure i could drink it all night but definitely worth having a few in the weekend stash.

Next weekend going to try Erdinger, Spaten & a few other less mainstream brews. Might even try some of these recently popular english ales.

Having a bottle of Goose Island 312 at the moment. An "Urban Wheat Ale" apparently! Quite nice though. Big fan of Goose Island. Never had a bad beer from them yet. And there's no big hype bull**** around them either.

    To give an update.

Easily summed up in one word: meh.

Tastes like a more fruity version of corona. Went down well with Mexican food after I gave it an initial trial on its lonesome where it suffered a quiet death.

+1 for Brooklyn Lager ... on special in Supervalu 6 bottles for 8.99
