Hi, I have been collecting these for a while and thought my fellow learners might like them.

Please add your own favourites, ar ndóigh!
and point out my mistakes, Dia ár sábháil!


A Dhia dhílis! = My God!

A Dhia liom = My God!

Abair é! = Well said! /quite true!

Amaidí! = Nonsense!

An créatúr! = Poor thing!

Ar aghaidh leat! = Go ahead!

Ar fheabhas! = Excellent!/ Sensational / Super

Ar ndóigh! = Naturally!

Bhuel! = Well!

Bulaí girsí = good girl yourself! well done! (Lit: a bull of a girl)

Bulaí stócaigh = good boy yourself! well done! (Lit: a bull of a boy)

Bullaí fir! = Good man yourself! well done! (Lit: a bull of a man)

Bullaí mná = Good woman yourself! well done! (Lit: a bull of a woman)

Buíochas le Dia! = Thank God!

Chugainn!, siúil leat! = Come on!

Chugainn, ar aghaidh linn! = let's go!

Cinnte! = naturally! (of course!)

Cinnte! = Yes indeed!
Cinnte! = By all means!
Go cinnte! = Certainly!
Go cinnte! = Definitely!
Cinnteacht! = Certainty!

Go deimhin! = Certainly / Indeed
Is breá, go deimhin = It's fine, certainly!

Dia ár sábháil! = God save us!

Fan ort go fóill! = Hold on a minute!

Go díreach! = Exactly!

Go hiontach! = Great!

Go hiontach ar fad! = Great altogether

Imigh leat = Be off with you / Go away

Bailigh leat! = Be off!

Imní ar bith!= No worries!

(Gan imní!= Without worry)

Is ea! = It is

Mar dheá! = As if! (mar ya) Used to denote disbelief

Mhuise! = Indeed! (musha)

Mhuise Dia linn! = God help us!

Pé scéal é! = Anyway!
Ar aon nós! = Anyway!

Sin sin! = thats that!

Sin a bhfuil = that's all (shin a will??)

Sin é! = That's it! (shin a), that's right!

Sin é go díreach! = quite (so)!

Thar barr! = excellent (Lit: over the top)

Togha cailín! = good girl yourself! well done! (Lit: choice (i.e. the best) of a girl)

Togha fir! = Good man yourself! well done! (choice (i.e. the best) of a man)
This can be said to a boy or a man


Togha mná! = good woman yourself! well done! (Lit: choice (i.e. the best) of a woman)

Nach mór an trua é! = What a shame/pity
