After weeks of negotiations, Maura Tierney has formally signed on to star in ABC’s new legal drama The Whole Truth, sources confirm. She replaces Joely Richardson, who quit the project earlier this month so she could spend more time with her family.
In Truth, which chronicles the building of a case from the perspective of both the defense and the prosecution, Tierney will play Kathryn Peale, a deputy bureau chief in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. Numb3rs‘ vet Rob Morrow costars as Kathryn’s primary opponent, rising criminal attorney Jimmy Brogan.
Tierney attempted a TV comeback last spring on NBC’s Parenthood, but she was forced to drop out to undergo treatment for breast cancer. (Lauren Graham eventually replaced her.) Tierney’s cancer is now in remission.

I much prefer Tierney to Richardson

Maura Tierney has revealed details of her new series The Whole Truth.

Speaking to E! Online, the actress explained that the legal drama is not like a normal procedural.

"Every week you get to decide whose case you're liking, and if my case is a stronger case or [co-star] Rob [Morrow]'s case is stronger," she said.

"Unfortunately in life, justice is not always achieved. The bad guys don't always get convicted and the good guys don't always succeed, so the audience is privy to that."

Tierney also revealed that she is pleased to be back at work following her recovery from breast cancer.

"It's a really wonderful feeling to know that people care about something that you do," she said. "[And] it's a priority for me now to work with people I really like and watch."

The Whole Truth will premiere on September 22 on ABC.

Looking for an easy to watch time killer so decided to give this a go. 10 episodes in and it's exactly the kind of easy to watch fluff that you can throw on over lunch. There's nice chemistry between the leads and the supporting cast are far more than window dressing. The cases are interesting and it's nice to have a show about lawyers where we can be somewhat impartial, that the defence lose more cases than they win is a nice change of pace, as are the final scene reveals in which we discover who really is guilty. One annoying aspect of the show is that it appears that there's only one prosecutor in the entire city who seems to spend all her time going against the same defends lawyer.
