Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In some bizarre moment of madness when cleaning a room I think I threw all mine out. I had loads from the SFX circa around 93 - 95, few from The Point around the time aswell... terrible move.

you need to save them to a host like photobucket or flickr. it gives you an option to copy. select what you want and post the url on here.

Wow, I'm fairly jealous reading this thread. I'd sell both legs to have seen The Clash or The Smiths.

Some awesome ticket stubs here, well done to all.

This thread is making me sad though, i went to hundreds of gigs in the 80's and 90's and didn't bother keeping the stubs, i have for the past few years though, but i'd have loved to have had the cop on to keep my old ones :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 557 ✭✭✭ned rierson

jesus, i spent a lot of my youth in the SFX.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭bullpost

I'm old enough to have been at both - took an SLR to phibsboro and have some photos buried in the house somewhere - will dig em out and scan them.

I like the way the bands' names on the older tickets are all in differing (and much clearer) fonts from one another, and some even with the font that the band uses on album covers, etc.. The only ticket I have like that is Pixies in Alexandra Palace London, 2005.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,944 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

This is the only ticket stub i kept from the 80's & 90's :(:(

Chili Peppers, Moby and The Flaming Lips... that's a pretty random billing. Not bad for a Point gig.

Where was the SFX Theatre? The last gig I remember being there was Tool way back on their Lateralus Tour in 2001 or something. Put it in to Google Street View and didn't find any building that resembled a theatre.

I'd love to see any pictures of what the Top Hot in Dun Laoghaire looked like on the outside. Used to go to the Fun Factory as a kid... good sweaty times. :)

SFX Was just off the five lamps, as far as i know 2001 was the last year for gigs there, the last year i was at one anyway, It has Been Demolished now about 5 years or so, SFX apartments(i think they're called) are there now, , Attached is a pic of the Top Hat at the Slayer/Nuclear Assault gig in 1988

Despite her name being on the ticket, Sheryl Crow didn't play that Point show, but I don't remember why. She was replaced by Big Country, whose drummer then got sick, so they played the set without him.

Seen em live a few times, They're probably the best live band i have ever seen, Stuart's Guitar playing was always second to none, Ya always got your moneys worth with BC, then some more....

Off-topic: I remember stumbling upon a discussion (possibly on "80s bands") on Dave Fanning's radio show only a few years ago, and Big Country were mentioned in a context which suggested that nobody on the panel seemed to know that Stuart was dead.

Talking of Bryan Ferry, his new album is out this w/end and Brian Eno did some work on it so it should be interesting. A host of others involved including David Gilmour, the album is called Olympia.
