Homer Simpson: a true Catholic role model

The Vatican's newspaper says Homer and Bart Simpson are "true Catholics".

Awwrigghhhtttt!!

Why didn't they give us role models like that when I was at school? Instead of all that "Don't touch it! You'll go blind, it will fall off and you'll go to hell!" ****e.

I'm off to worship God through the grace of eating doughnuts. Now that's a religious experience I could handle.

Great to see the Church moving with the times.

It's got a level of truth to it.

In Homer's case be incredibly ignorant and listen to what you're told.

In Bart's case have a bit of fun and bully you're extremely protestant neighbors.

I never saw any of that in the Bible. I thought that was more of an Irish mammy type thing

We were repeatedly told that "touching for pleasure" was a sin. And if anything issued forth, it was a mortal sin.

We were also referred to the story of Onan. (Genesis 38: 9-10)

They are. The article uses catholic in the general sense not the Roman Catholic sense. Although there was that one time Homer and Bart looked into joining the RCC.

I always thought that was a pathetic part of the show, a long time marriage with three children hinging on one partners superstitions.

As a kid I found it wrong, I see it the same way today.

Bloody Groening is forever pushing his good christian agenda though through the simpsons.

The point story of Onan is actually that even though he didn't get his brothers wife up the duff he was doing wrong and God punished him for it.

But what was it he did wrong?

Clearly it was "wasting his seed" by spilling it on the ground. (Presumably they didn't have Kleenex in those days)

After all, nothing wrong with incest in the good ol' days of Genesis.

Witness the story of Lot and his daughters in Genesis 19: 30-38.

Basically they get him drunk and shag him and the ensuing offspring become the founding fathers of the Ammonites and Moabites "unto this day."

No sign of either of those brazen hussies being "smote down by the Lord".

The Lord slew him for disobeying his orders, nothing to do with incest, pleasuring himself, shagging yerwan or "spilling his seed". You're defeating your own point by referencing Lot and his daughters.
