I wouldn't count of Wenger ATM TBH. He said Fabregas will be staying, but he is definitely going to go next summer.

This is pantomime stuff tbh. Simply put, the story has broken too far away from the realistic transfer window he can move in. Moving to City would be cartoon villain stuff.

He'll eventually come back into form, sign a new contract, and the media will **** themselves silly over Ferguson's "man management" skills.

LL has it spot on. he'll find his feet again. he's just having a bad few months, personally and professionally, so unless the press really hound him out (it would have to be monumental stuff IMO), then he ain't go anywhere.

i just can't see him going to City. i really can't.

i know he'll be haunted by his 'once a blue, always a blue' line, but he was never really going to stay at Everton. it wasn't a risk to leave. leaving now would be an almighty gamble.

although, i would have to chuckle at a frontline of Tevez and Rooney for City. who'd have ever even dreamed of that possibility 2 years ago?

I don't know that he can stop people from asking questions, but he doesn't have to answer them.

Decline is relative though, I don't believe the entire club is in decline, or that we'll go 10+ years without winning any significant trophies. I do believe that we need to rebuild and I think Fergie has tried to start that with the players he's bought over the last few years.

I think (as I've said before here) we're going to have 3-4 rocky years ahead, where we compete but aren't as competitive. Hopefully at the end of that though we'll be back with a squad that's genuinely capable of winning both the PL & the CL.

These things always tend to be cylical, the key is not falling off the edge of a cliff while you're on the downward cycle.

Indeed, I'm not suggesting some sort of disaster, just a relative decline. Which clearly will still hurt that generation of supporters who have known little other than a conveyer belt of trophies.

I think arsenal could do a one off deal for rooney... i know they have pay ceilings and wages and all that... but a "one off deal" could be thrashed out... 150K and captaincy.. certainly arsenal can afford it... and there team is heading for the top....

At least with Liverpool, and the new owners, there is potential for it to be turned around. I know the new owner has said they won't be ploughing money into the club but as long as they aren't taking fistfulls out to service debt Liverpool are alrady in a much better financial position than they were a couple of weeks ago. United, on the other, have no real end in sight for the debt and financial problems that are, i feel, affecting the club badly.

However, I would also say that the debt at United is probably not the overriding factor of this current Rooney situation.

There are two reasons being thrown about for the current mess.

1. Rooney wants 200k a week, which United won't offer, and his agent is playing the club and the media to get what he wants.

2. Rooney was dropped for poor form due to, and possibly punished for, his whoring around, and is now reacting like a spoiled child.

In the case of 1 - United can't afford to be attempting to match the likes of City or Real in wages game, if all that matters to Rooney is money and he wants 200k a week, he'll likely need to go elsewhere. That would likely have been the case with or without the Glazers; United have never been as crazy as others when it comes to wages. If Rooney got 200k a week, how long before other players start demanding that at United?

In the case of 2 - Grow the fúck up Rooney, to be honest. Sort your game out and you'll likely not have been dropped - you've been terrible for 6 months.

With regards to, potentially, being punished for his extra-marital shenanigans... I'm not so sure on that one. I don't know whether it is Fergie's, or United's, place to punish players for stuff they do outside of club hours.

Had he said -

Unless Wayne is a good Goalie we don't need him.

TBH I would suspect that he is gone. As with any previous player that has crossed Alex they then to be shifted very quickly aka Stam, van Nistelrooy, Roy Keane. I suspect it will be the same with Rooney and unless City come up with some outrageous offer I do not think he will go to them.

I can't understand Rooneys logic beyond playing games to get a better deal which is a very dangerous game to play with Uniteds Manager. It's obvious to me that the manager is trying to protect him and instead of realising this Rooney is contradicting him and on a collision course with him. He is obviously letting the media get to him and affect his decision making.
