Winners of the xtravision comp (and it wasn't me :()

Some of you were eager beavers for the Ugly Truth prize.

Got an awful lot of entries, but could only have 5 winners. Winners were Jennifer Beaton, Michael Quirke, Grainne Halligan, Eileen O’Flaherty and Colm Heffernan. Congrats to you all.

I must say I hate all those competitions that are keep liking me and get others to like your comment on facebook, it gets to be a popularity contest :(

On the olympia competition, this girl wrote one word and had about 90 likes...

It's very frustrating alright. An interesting article from loquax recently about voting competitions on Facebook: http://blog.loquax.co.uk/news/ryvita-crunch-down-in-response-to-voting-competition-concerns-981.htm

Also you may find it interesting that there is a voting commmunity group on Facebook to help each other win voting style competitions. Note - I'm not a member - because I feel that it encourages unfair competition and doesn't reward the rightful winner.

I didn't know there was a group for voting, I don't think that's right at all. I think picking winners at random are the best.

How do you Change Your Profile in facebook??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 449 ✭✭Smokeyskelton

I never enter any competition that involves Facebook or Twitter.

They inevitably either involve pestering people I know, stating that I "like" something that I have no real interest in (thus making a liar out of myself), entering a popularity contest (and let's face it I'm going to lose out big time on that one), or some other tedious hassle.

Oh yes, I also have to reveal to facebook "friends" that I am the type of saddo that enters competitions. No doubt they send some message to everyone in my group to that effect e.g. "Joe Bloggs has just entered our draw for a jumbo pack of lubricants on our Facebook page".

This just confirms my status as a total Grump. I apologise and hope we can move on from this.

Good luck to all fellow compers.

If it's the info tab you're looking to change just click the edit link next to each section. For anything else use the Accounts Tab.

I know! I did it once. I liked a page and within five minutes someone asked, "Did you just like that page to try and win something?" I had just assumed no one would notice.

If anyone does want to go down the Facebook route, you can edit your privacy settings so that pages you like do not appear on your profile or in others' newsfeeds.

Apparently Im not good enough for Mr Rankin cos Im on mobile :-( Its amazing the amount of sites that seem to havnt spotted this niche in the market yet. One of the new mobile phone companies have even told me they will make their site phone friendly 'after' they launch. Makes no sense to me but Im old :-S (Sorry, wrong forum).

There's a simple solution - for the ones that just require you to like them and not garner millions of votes, just create a second Facebook account which you have no friends on, and use that instead! It's worked a treat for me so far!

Two hampers up for grabs on MummyPages.ie.

One on their facebook page - you need to 'like' the page and 'like' the comment and for those that don't want to do the facebook one, there's another on the site where you only have to post a comment here

was just entering a competition here:

    http://competitions.independent.ie/be-in-to-win-a-relaxing-break-for-two-at-the-imperial-hotel,-cork!-1121.html

and it said text for €2 or enter below online... filed out the form, including my mobile number, and then saw luckily:

"NOTE: You will be charged to enter this competition. You will be charged using a premium SMS message.
    * I agree to pay a charge to enter this competition. The charge for this competition is €2.00 (See Terms and Conditions for more details)"

very sneaky and bad form for a prize porbably worth about €300 or €400...

The Irish Independent is only giving itself negative publicity by doing this. Rip-off Ireland isn't gone away!
