Is there a process to remove oneself from the electoral register?

I think you have to contact the local authority where you are registered
See www.checktheregister.ie - there are link to the county registrar there e.g. 045 980201 or email regelectors@kildarecoco.ie for Kildare

why would one wish to do such a thing? No vote = no say = part of the problem

if you did want to do that you would indeed need to contact your nearest local council office.

There's no legal obligation to register AFAIK but if you want to vote in elections you must be registered.

The only other situation I've seen where a person is removed from the electoral register is in cases of spousal abuse etc where a person has been moved for their own safety and they've gone ex-directory, different names for everything etc.
However, and tell me if I'm wrong, don't politicians and local councillors have access to the registry for canvassing purposes?

Surely you have a right not to be on it?

Local politicians cannot pad the list any more by sticking down names that are not registered already.

im sure if you requested to be removed from it and not to be re-added you;d be sorted. Its not padding if you are added to it, as its up to you to go vote, and up to you who you vote for.

Why live in a country where you have completely and utterly no say though? Politics wont notice the lack of your vote, but it could well notice the addition of your vote. a vote is a damn important right, and collectively, votes make a difference.

Perhaps the OP does not want to do any jury duty nor be on any radar for 'council activities'.
