5/10 Mins Jogging a day is that good for you ?

    I started running recently and to start me off I started with 5 minutes and worked ever second day up to 10 minutes then 15 minutes and then tried 15 minutes the second day after that.

    And got a pain and stopped I know I can run and manage 10 minutes ever second day.

    But It doesn't seem to be doing anything for me aka losing weight.

    Did it for 3 weeks straight and gave up....

    I am prob going to hear now that it takes time.

    The couch to 5k running plan

    Much easier to follow, thousands of people (including quite a few on this forum) have used it successfully.

    Totally agree with that.
    Started C25k (posting updates on a thread on this site) in April. Completely unfit, 16 stone+ at the time. Used the music from one of the C25K sites and used the thread mentioned as motivation/peer pressure.
    Ran a 5K in June, 8 K in August and planning on running a 10K next month. Even managed to Run/walk a half marathon in the summer.

    Moved on from the C25K and kinda following a few other programmes.
    Highly recommended from me anyway.

    10 minutes of running, that's about 1 mile, that's about 100 calories burnt. You need to burn 3500 calories to equal 1 pound of fat loss (and only if you don't reward yourself with treats after your run...)

    Of course running 10 minutes every other day won't make you lose weight. It's not rocket science.

    well someone told me if i get tired during the run I walk until i get my breath and heart relaxed and start back running again.

    Can i run 5 mins a day ?

    or will i damage my muscles in my legs and stop them from healing.

    I really can't and honestly don't see myself running 25k or anything near it.

    Im sorta happy with the 10 mins routine I have.

    Can I lose weight by running 10 mins ever second day ?

    Depends what you are eating to be honest and what else you do in the day.
    For most people its probably not enough though.

    You're probably better giving your legs some time to heal.

    The c25k is perhaps a 30-40 minute session, every second day, which isnt actually that bad and you dont feel yourself doing it after a while, getting out of the house is the problem.
    You dont need to run 25K, get up to the 5k in 9 or ten weeks then carry on as you want to.
    There is a thread in here somewhere with plenty of C25K'ers with some great advice and tips.

    Yes, it takes time, but if you are motivated it is worth it.
    But you need to be clear on what your goal is, in order to be motivated.

    Sorry, didn't see that the same advice was already given above.

    Running 1 mile burns approx 100 calories. I don't know what pace you were running at, but in 10 minutes, as a beginner, you were probably running a mile or less.

    One biscuit has 100 calories. So, if you want to lose weight, you are better off dropping one biscuit a day from your diet then running for 10 minutes 3 times a week.

    But, running will improve your health in loads of ways and will help you lose weight if you keep it up and are not overeating.

    I agree that using a Cto5k program might help you get going again.

    It's couch to 5k, not 25k

    Running 10 minutes every second day isn't going to do you any good. You won't lose weight, it won't get easier, and you'll stop doing it sooner rather than later.

    The couch to 5k programme is 30 minutes, 3 times a week. If you can't commit to that...

    I have just reread the entire thread and I just want to say to the OP, dont get downheartened about the whole running / exercise topic.

    BTW, I think you misunderstood the meaning of C25k. You mentioned not being able to run 25K. Dont worry Lots of us cant.

    The aim of the C25k program is to aim to run 5K which is much more achievable.

    If you find that you haven't caught the running bug, switch to another exercise / sport.
    Use walking or another form of exercise to improve the strength and stamina in your legs and lungs and try again in a few months.

    Exercise will benefit your attempts to lose weight, but its the long game that matters. Keep it up. Its worth it.

    No (well you'll lose 1 pound every 12 weeks assuming your diet remains the same).
    Running is great for your health but to lose weight effectively,
    1. Look at your diet
    2. Get a good weight lifting routine.

    right i'll try this tomorrow

    Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

    I really dont feel comfortable listening to music while running.

    It would distract me when the ear phones kept falling out awww.

    Just build everything up slowly and you'll be amazed how far you can go...

    As for headphones there are lots of different types and something like this won't go falling out on you!!

    Plus try running on grass instead of pavement. Much nicer on the joints and you are less likely to get injured. Your legs will thank you for it!

    oh I will only ever run on grass :)

    concrete why would I want to hurt my joints.
