This is mainly aimed at those with massive post counts, (you know who you are)
You love to have an opinion ? Is it boredom ?

Because its the only site on the net where I can argue about religion, talk about video games, and weigh up the pros and cons of shaving my balls, among other topics.

    Define "massive" :D

    Lots of reasons....

Generally use it to filter out the crap thats in the media and hear real people's opinions on stuff.

Certain forums (banking/bargain alerts) good to show/warn you of whats out there and educate yourself

Sometimes i just do it to call Tubbs, Noel Dempsey etc a dope too.

As for posting, sometimes I have opinions that need a broader audience to lead to an intelligent discussion on topics (Infrastructure mainly) which you cant find in your local..

Sometimes i just have a question that people i know dont have the answer to (and neither does google)

And of course, sometimes im bored off my t1ts and need a laugh (stingy thread anyone?)

Like i said, lots of reasons. In short, Boards is excellent
    ;)

My Mam died suddenly in August, for me the Boards, and internet in general has been a lifesaver.
I would have went out of my mind thinking about stuff relating to her death. Instead I just messed around on internet looking for the most trivial stuff, I think to avoid ****. When I cant sleep during the night due to nightmares, I come on the boards, and the internet in general. Just helps take my mind of stuff.

don't have a massive post count but i lurk a lot. i'm in transition year so i have a lot of free time and i often don't feel like sleeping in the dead of night so i'll consult my laptop for ideas on what i should do. usually have a few forum tabs/facebook/youtube open and i refresh the page every few minutes.

also lurk around the leaving cert forum a good bit to get my head around what i'll be doing soon enough.

I sometimes roam the fleshworld, then I post about it on boards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,554 ✭✭✭✭alwaysadub

I didn't think i had a high post count, but it was pointed out to me the other day that apparantly i do...i'm always afraid i'll miss the good stuff so i stay on as often as possible :D

Plus i use it on my mobile mainly,so it's a lot easier to spend ages here without realising.

Boards taught me that there's more to the internet than porn.

Very much depends. It will increase when there's either something interesting or newsworthy or to relieve boredom

The internet has pretty much replaced TV for me - and there is a LOT on Boards alone. I find it enjoyable, interesting, some great people etc. Most of my postcount was racked up at college/work between 2005 and May 2009 though.

A few different reasons really. Boredom, out of habit, coming on to talk/rant about something, talk to people with similar interests etc...

    1. Make a cup of tea.
    2. Absorb the awesome, terrifying knowledge the ball-shaving thread is sure to contain.
    3. Make the most important decision of my life.

I'm on it out of habit at this stage.
For as long as I've had the internet I've always browsed boards.ie to entertain myself and kill time.

Sorry to hear about your mum.

I don't want to make an issue of it of course, but there's a very nicely run bereavement forum on boards.ie CLICK HERE.

    Kindest regards.

I come here for a lot of reasons

    1) Current Affairs. I don't know what the hell is going on with this "Banking Crisis" but I am learning about it here.

    2) Friends. Some of my friends are on this site

    3) There is topics which I like to talk about

    4) Knowing that there isn't 12-year-olds promoting their Bebo in the wrong section

There is alot more but that is my top 4

I first became aware of boards everytime I would pop a query into google and up came a boards reply.

When I was buying my first computer and choosing broadband, the advice was invaluable. Same actually for lots of stuff, cable vs. digital tv, how to register to vote, etc.

The religious/moral debates drew me at first, and it was astonishing to see the factions! I was more used to 'like minded people', gatherings IRL.

Then, I hated the AH hang-all-the-scumbags-on-the-dole threads, and the smug posts of individuals, who were part of the setting up of boards asserting that posters like me were 'priveleged to be given a platform' to air views. Feck off.

Theres been times where I have been very, very certain about things or issues, only to change my mind utterly towards the end of a thread.

Unlike face to face, people are more honest, and not remotely afraid of offending, therefore it easier to get the heart of an issue or topic, and therefore you can find out what people really think. I love that.

Bargin Alerts, Food + Drink and Soap Operas to name a few. Its also interesting to read some peoples take on todays news stories.

I luv to argue with ppl and spell sh!t incorrectly to pi$$ ppl off
I am also in work very bored coz there is nothing to do

mostly I read boards because it's 1 of the only sites you can read without porn pop ups etc.. except for people posting images or vids in their post. Now that's annoying for us working folk trying to pay your dole wages

I suppose bordem, but tend not to go on it much at the weekends mainly during the week. I try not too go on it for too long now and again. There are days I'm on it all day long and days I'm not on it at all. Depends what else is going on. If I am a bit busy or going places I wouldn't be on boards much at all.

At this moment it's because I'm on the bog and it's taking longer than originally expected. Boards has changed taking a dump forever.

I'm a "crank up the karma points" nerd with no job waiting to pay €200 off my tv so I can mount the ****er and knock a Wii remote through it.

    Also: Boards is hilerious.

In between posting on boards I'm quite active and most of my post count has being being over a 3 year period when at college I had more time on my hands .I dont watch as much television now either ( it's on in the background and it's easy to catch up on stuff ) .

There's a lot happening on boards ,so many threads and lots of the time it's a case of catchy up for me. I just came back from over a week offline of no internet use which surprisingly, I didn't miss as much as I thought .

But it was only a week :p
