I have had problems with my ipad so I have to send it back to be replaced. The guy I spoke to in Apple didn't have the greatest english so I was a bit confused by the end of the conversation about the exact plan for this.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if you return things to Apple is it by courier or by post office ? I was told "bring it to the courier office" and I'm not sure that I'll be able to get to one of those too easily. :o

In the past, products I've had replaced by Apple were collected by a courier sent by Apple and a few weeks later I then received a replacement product. On more higher cost items such as desktops, Apple were nice enough to send a replace straight away and give me a week to transfer all my stuff before replacing it.

I suppose it depends on the product, but thats the experience I've had.

You should have been given a case ID. Enter it here:
    https://support.apple.com/repairstatus/Main?id=repairStatus&set=1&geo=gben

And it should give you some indication as to what's going to happen next. You could also try just ringing them again to get clarification.

I had to have my 3Gs replaced after only a few weeks back in July. As you said yourself the guys in Apple didnt have the best English so it took a second phone call.

I called them on a Monday and UPS collected it on Tuesday morning. The driver arrives with a special box to place the phone only in. I had the replacement back from Apple on Friday morning via UPS again.

Excellent service apart from the first guy I talked to on the previous Thursday had very poor English and mucked up the first attempt at collection.

He told me that they would post me out a box.Do you mean when the courier comes to deliver the box you just hand out your ipad/iphone whatever to him there and then ?

I presumed you'd have to pack it and address it etc and post it or contact a courier and arrange to send it .

When I asked how do I send it back and would I need to pay for postage today I was just continually told "go to the courier office". I wasn't sure if he meant "go to the post office".

Thank you everyone for the replies. It's much appreciated. :)

Its all done for you. Prepaid out to you with UPS. There is an empty box inside, with a fresh courier envelope stickers etc. Just follow the instructions. if the courier arrived in the morning, ask him to come back in the afternoon to collect it from you.

I think you are getting some mis-information due to the poor English. I would ring again and ask for someone with excellent English to talk to so you can confirm the details.

Apple do use UPS as their courier service in Ireland and they already have a supply of boxes for returning devices. They come to the address you give to Apple on the phone and collect the iphone/ipad and place it in their box. They only take the device and no accessories. You sign a form confirming collection and off they go.

They also can send you out a new one once you pay 35 euro and put a hold on your credit card for value of phone (3gs in my case). You then send back the old one with the courier.

Another option, which I availed of is to pay 68euro to extend your warranty for 1 year. The 68euro includes the 35 shipping so for me it was a no brainer.
Depends how new your phone is I guess, my warranty was almost up.

Thank you all so much for the replies. The courier came now so I asked him if he'd be able to take it back again today and he said yes! So it's gone now. Much relief.I'd be nervous putting the most expensive thing I own into the post or not knowing exactly what I should do with it.

    .

The guy I spoke to tried to tell me about this yesterday but told me it was 85 euro. He wasn't very clear on the particulars though and I don't have an extra 85 so I said I'd leave it. :)

Hmmm, prolly more expensive for the ipad.
Since you are barely into your warranty it makes a little less sense to avail I guess.
