For me it was Bill Hicks. I also witnessed a lot of sorrow when Kurt Kobain died.

Why did their passing on mean that much to you?

    Maude Flanders.

She was just such a good person and so generous to the community. When I think of poor Ned and those 2 beautiful boys she left behind, Rod and Todd.

It still brings a lump to my throat even now.

Well at the time it was Kurt Cobain his was the first music that really meant anything to me and his death touched me quite profoundly. I was 17 at the time.

More recently (cue abuse) Gerry Ryan. Actually felt like i lost a friend as i used to listen to him every morning. Sometimes still listen to his podcasts on 2fm.

I wouldn't say I get effected by celebrity deaths as they are people I don't know and in most cases, inhabit a completely different world to me.

Gerry Ryan was the closest I guess. I didn't particularly like him (he irked me actually) but I grew up with him as a public figure on tv and radio in Ireland.

I remember watching the rubbish show he had on Friday nights (secrets?) back in the early 90's and then him spouting crap on the radio. He wasn't an old man so it touched on my own mortality when he went.

The outpouring of grief when celebritues die generally bemuses me.

    Would have to be Diana.

Not because I cared about her, but because it affected my ability to watch my television programs in peace for like 2 months straight!!!

    Freddie Mercury
Seemed far too talented and full of life to die so young.

george harrison, not that i knew who he was back then but because my dad got really emotional and i'm a bit of a copycat. since then i haven't really felt anything but when the times come that hugh laurie, kiefier sutherland and paul mccartney pass away, i'll be a wreck.

Found out recently that Philip off Bosco died back in 1987. My inner child was distraught.

Teared up a bit when I heard George Harrison had died.

Heath Ledger - Always admired his acting abilties and his sense of style.
Chris Beniot - Stopped doing backyard wrestling and reckless behavior regarding the welfare of my health. Bit of a stretch really but glad I toned it down after that.
