This is happening now!

Sad, especially if you are inclined to 'help' people...

While driving on a rural end of the roadway on Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. For whatever reason, I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Police and they were going to check it out. But, this is what the Police advised even before they went out there to check....

"There are several things to be aware of ... gangs and thieves are now plotting different ways to get a person (mostly women)to stop their vehicle and get out of the car.

"There is a gang initiation reported by the local Police where gangs are placing a car seat by the road...with a fake baby in it...waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the abandoned baby.

"Note that the location of this car seat is usually beside a wooded or grassy (field) area and the person -- woman -- will be dragged into the woods, beaten and raped, and usually left for dead. If it's a man, they're usually beaten and robbed and maybe left for dead, too.

DO NOT STOP FOR ANY REASON!!!

AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW, BUT DON'T EVEN SLOW DOWN.

Yeah, and guys totally hide under your car so they can slash your achilles tendon. And if you see a car driving at night without lights you shouldn't flash your lights at them because they'll come after you and murder you. And these two teens, right, were parked in the woods and they think they hear something so they drive off and when they get home there's a hook-hand hanging off the back door of the car. And it's true because it happened to a friend of a friend of mine, and they emailed me about it.

I don't get all the skepticism in this thread so far. Some criminals will try anything to bait a victim and unfortunately they're not all complete idiots and they will, and do, prey on peoples good nature.

Whether or not it happened here or recently is irrelevant. And it's horrible that it is safer to drive by a situation that you could help (if genuine) out of fear of being trapped.

It didn't happen anywhere though. The departments the emails are supposed to have been sent from are saying it's a hoax.

What a load of bollocks.
What criminal worth their salt would sit in a cold, wet fücking ditch waiting for someone to stop their car so he could rob them? Wouldn't he be much better off just mugging someone in the street and making off with their money? Easier, better chance of success, less chance of pneumonia, wider choice of potential victims.
Indeed if the crook was to go to the lengths of putting a fake baby by the side of the road in order to get people to stop (as I howl with laughter) then why not employ a technique that will definitely get a car to stop, i.e. a spiked chain? And then rob them as they try to figure out why they've had a quadruple blow-out?

Utter, UTTER BOLLOCKS!

Tricks like these are happening a lot in Germany, car seats on the side of the road. people pretending to have car trouble etc... basically anything which might get people to stop their car, don't know what the story is in Ireland, but I know for a fact that this is happening in Germany, it's mainly Eastern European gangs

I'd much prefer the robbed and maybe option.

I got that email too and have been so fearful of getting out of my car that I've decided not to. Ever.

Thank God for drive-thru fast food joints and my laptop which can be powered off my car battery.

The bottles of piss are starting to take up a lot of room though. If I wasn't too scared to roll down my window I'd dump a few to make space.

Speaking of dumps......... where's that empty Big Mac carton?

I'd imagine it'd be worthwhile nicking their car if you've managed to stop them at the side of a dark road and beat them over the head. Wouldn't be worthwhile trying to steal it if you've blown out all the tyres..I guess.
