Free Gay Wedding Photos...and a bit of non-profit

    HI Everyone!

    My name is Shawna. I'm a Dublin-based wedding photographer on a bit of a mission. I wanted to start a new project for myself, and I was wondering if I can get a bit of help.

    My idea is to shoot a number of gay and lesbian weddings over the next year...completely free of charge to the couples. At the same time, I want to help raise money for the marriage equality campaign, and BeLonG To. However, I've never worked with a non-profit before and I'm not really sure who to talk to about it. Ideally, I'd like to have an exhibition at the end of 2011 with all proceeds going to those two causes.

    Now, here's the problem. How do I cover my own cost of doing this project? Train tickets, taxis, and accommadation around the country for a year is really going to add up, and I know that on top of my current cost of living, I can't afford it on my own. This is something I'm really passionate about, though, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas for me to get funding and make it work?

    If you work with either of those causes (or even if you don't), I'd really love to hear from you. Also, if you're planning a wedding or commitment ceremony, give me a shout.

    Think you might be a bit early offering to photograph any Irish gay weddings....seeing as we're not allowed to get married here yet.

    Now commitment ceremonies should be no problem covering, unless people are going to wait on the introduction of Civil Partnership, which wont be until the middle of next year according to the thread on this particular topic.

    I think its a great idea, and your site looks brill.
    Sorry I dont have any ideas for you.

    Arts council maybe you might get a grant/funding? Ask that the people who take up the offer that they cover the costs of travel etc ?

    Good idea, if you are willing to do peoples photos for free, the least that can be done is cover expenses.
    Have you tried getting in contact with the organisations you mentioned?

    @Mollzer- I haven't contacted anyone yet, because I thought it would be best if I actually had a plan first before I put it to them. lol.

    I say "wedding," because that's essentially what it is. Legal or not. When a close family friend of mine got married back in Seattle, she just called it her "wedding," so that's just what I go with now. "Commitment ceremony" just sounds like a euphimism and has too many syllables anyway. :p Didn't mean to cause any offense with my unwieldy use of the word "wedding."
