In fairness you can't expect a country to be fluent in a langauge that isn't spoken by most if the people in the country where it's from.

And when talking about Vladimir Putin they should refer to him by his correct title "Премьер-министр"

No problems with the pints, all he really really wanted was a duvet day

Yeah, I'd forgive the Yanks for calling him the Prime Minister. The Brits should learn the word Taoiseach though. Christ if you're close enough to a country to hit it with a stone, and you have a long and complex relationship with that country you should learn the correct term for its head of government.

    Back on topic.

    Cringe:o

Cowen is a bollocks, but his bollockology has been a godsend for other countries trying to hide from their own problems for a while.

Cowen will be the first taoiseach to die by falling into a ditch while staggering home from the pub on a dark night.

I'm pretty sure Ireland falls into that also.

Leno is a gob****e anyway, he's entire act seems to have denigrated into pointing out how superior he is to other people. I cant stand the smug git, but he has achieved the impossible, he made me stand up for Brian Cowen. How many other world leaders enjoy a drink, Winston Churchill was an alcoholic for pete's sake. Yet because Cowen wasn't blessed with looks he becomes an object of ridicule. If he was being mocked for his policies, his incompetence or his record then I would be all for it, satire is a wonderful thing. But no, Mr. Holywood Jay Leno wants us all to look at this freak of nature, with a photograph catching him at a bad time, who enjoys a pint like everyone else. Muppet.

Conan never would have lowered himself to this.

Cowen's drinking is just adding to our problems however, and reinforcing negative stereotypes and perceptions of the country as a whole.

Yes it does, its meaning is derived from the word meaning chieftain, but in modern usage it refers to the head of our parliament, which in most English speaking countries is called a prime minister.

I know that Taoiseach is the correct term in both English and Irish, so technically 'prime minister' is sloppy and inaccurate, but the word still does mean prime minister.
