The Etymology of Paedophile

What is the correct term?

My understanding of it is that a paedophile is someone who likes kids (in a sexual way, but hasn't had sex with them).
A Pederast is someone who has sex with kids.

And a pedophile is someone abhorred by people who can't spell.

Maybe I'm wrong.
Someone enlighten me.

Paedophile is someone who has a sexual interest in pre-pubescent kids, whether acted upon or not.

A pederast is someone with a sexual interest in slightly older 'kids' i.e. teens, more often than not boys.

Yes. It over-laps with pederasts, who are men engaging in sexual acts with younger boys.

Never said you can be, but we're arguing about ideas here, not an actual case or anything. Paedophilia is a mental thing, paedophilia doesn't necessitate rape or anything like that.

It's the number one type of criminal - real or imagined - to get outraged about.

Seriously though, my heart goes out to anyone who is hit with the reality that they find children sexually desirable - what a miserable burden to have landed on you. Sympathy over and out though if a person actually acts on that feeling.

It's weird how there are pedophiles. Like throughout the animal kingdom homosexuality is common enough but there has not been a case of an animal having sex with a child in the animal kingdom.

It is boggling why an adult would find a child attractive. I would lean towards it's a mental disorder.

No precedent for this in our jurisdiction yet as far as I am aware, not too mention that in other jursidictions from what I remember such cases have only really been taken seriously when the post has been pre-approved prior to appearing to other users, this isn't the case with boards.ie.

Paedophiles are dirty cúnts. I work for ICMEC and part of my job is using our software to get child pornogoraphy images removed from the net. Losing battle as there's too many paedo's out there putting new stuff up daily.
