Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dangerous driving

Sorry if this is already here but there is a thread over in after hours with a link (sorry don't know if it'll work doesn't seem to be when I copy it but its called Limerick Lady vs The Duck Filly Race )

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qaiIxo3qf8&feature=related

Everyone is debating whether the guards would be able to do anything. It has to be illegal- they are in the hard shoulder and the wrong lane (you can see the traffic coming the opposite way in their hard shoulder).

If I passed this I would report it straight away but loads of people seem to think nothing coulde be done about it. If I was driving on the wrong side on the road I'd be arrested. Are these races actually legal?

Well, the black horse was galloping ,that's a disqualification there straight away :D

(bloody idiots ...that looks like the main Sligo to Dublin road which they effectively took over for their little race.)

Of course its bloody well illegal. And they will continue to do it and get away with it.

They would only laugh at the guards anyway.

even if (when) its reported, nothing will get done because they're travellers. I guarantee it.

They usually have police scanners so they are well tipped off if the Gardai are on the way. By the time the Gardai get there they have moved on to another location. Some serious amounts of cash changing hands too at these gigs.

It's a pitty that Revenue doesn't make a few enquires about how all those expensive SUVs and vans are paid for. Of course that would not be very PC.

There are massive double standards at work so. Not so long ago a group of teenagers posted a video on youtube that everyone was talking about and they were caught and arrested and their cars were seized.

Who gives a sh1te about PC Bazz? You can have no doubts about it - if it were you and me it wouldnt be long before someone knocked on your door.

These kind of people really turn my stomach.

Sure its apart of their culture guys, what's with the anti-traveller statements? These people are decent people who just can't get jobs*

    *lots of sarcasm.

Alot of travelers don't have an address so where would the gardai send the summons to? That's why they would probably get away with it and maybe that's why the gardai would not bother stopping them?

p!sses me off no end how these "people" get away with it year after year, whereas if my car is a week out of tax I'd get screwed.

Plenty of penalty point offenses committed there and not a chance of anything been done about it.

Yep it sure is. Its the N4 just south of castlebaldwin. I was very suprised to see this happen on that strecth of road because the gaurds are almost always along there.

They all have PPSNs. They would have to supply an address for that and it is also tracked by Welfare. But guess what - the Gardai are not entitled to ask them for their PPSN:(

Absolutely, if you want to avoid a ban. You can of course go to town on the people in the clip.

DonJose opens the traveller thread door gently and steps into this thread. DonJose looks around and see's Anan1 sitting in the corner with a ban stick, DonJose steps back and gently closes the thread door.

I wonder if those involved in the clip are using their commercial vehicles for personal use - Gormley and the rest of the greens would frown on that!
The lads with the horses on the other hand .... emm, very green and sustainable transport!

What would your guess be on the profession/trade of those involved... tarmac technicians? scrap merchants????

It made the paper this morning.

    Indo wrote:
GARDAI have launched a search for a gang that raced two horses and carts along a busy main road in a race that was then posted on YouTube.

The footage showed several four-wheel drives and vans behind the carts -- known as sulkies -- and their drivers on the N4 near Ballinacarrow, Co Sligo.

Gardai from Ballymote are studying footage of the video, which shows a convoy of vehicles belonging to the Traveller community spread over more than half the road behind the horses.

At least two vehicles drove on the other side of the road, against oncoming traffic, during the race between horses named 'Limerick Lady' and 'The Duck Filly'.

Traffic behind the race was held up for at least 10 minutes and vehicles travelling in the other direction were forced several times on to the hard shoulder.

The horses were running alongside each other for much of the race, but when one gained advantage and went a couple of lengths in front of the other, a driver and a passenger in one of the 4x4s could be seen sticking their heads out of the windows to cheer on the driver of the cart.

    YouTube

The race took place on June 26 but was only posted on YouTube earlier this month.

The section of road where the race occurred is a long and straight one. However, a few kilometres further on, it runs into an area where there have been several fatal accidents in recent years. At least 10 vehicles were behind the horses and the video camera was in front. The cameraman filming the race can be heard urging his driver to speed up.

A senior garda spokesman at Ballymote said: "We have a copy of the footage and are studying it.

"All the digits on the number plates are not readily discernible, but we are hoping to identify members of the party.

"It's a very busy road, the main one from Dublin to Sligo, and much serious delay was caused to other vehicles." He added: No doubt, the law was broken."

Last July, gardai seized two cars and interviewed a number of young drivers in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, after video footage of them driving dangerously along a country had been posted on YouTube.

Can't see if there's any green nappies on the horses but there's quite a bit of slipstreaming going on in the 'dirty air' as Martin Brundle would say! :D

Probably a stupid question but why cant they just do this kind of thing on beaches? Or even give a farmer a cut of the bets and have it around a field?

Can't drive vans on beaches like that, (pretty sure you can't drive on beaches at all). As for just have a horse race on a beach, it could endanger the public, so that's probably out too.

A farmer's field would be private land.

Handy enough to get most of the number plate of one vehicle with little work so hopefully the cops can send the penalty points the right way and tip the revenue off as well

Another reason why I would rather have gardai policing the roads instead of gatso cameras and gatso vans etc.
