Could it be Jones is just too slight for professional rugby? He looks tiny compared to other players.

    Obviously not.

Both Jones and Dowling have been named in Munster's HEC squad, Fogarty is omitted.

Hopefully this is an indication that Jones is not as badly hurt as we feared.

Dowling is a bigger loss than is given credit for. Always solid for Munster. Mightn't have great pace but has a good head on him a bit like A Horgan in his day.

I heard on the radio this morning that both Fogarty and Dowling were gone for the rest of the year. If this is true do you think we will be allowed look for another hooker? Or is this different than when Horan was out last year and they will say we have enough in the squad?

It looked to me that he did the knee before going into contact as he was trying to make a step to send the defender the wrong way. I don't think it was something that was done in contact. However, I havent seen it on TV at all, so i could be completely wrong.

He's slow, scores few trys, can tackle well, chases lost causes and always gives 100% just like Horgan. He's a loss because we're short of experienced bach three players not because he's a standout player.

There's a lot to like about him but I was delighted when Munster signed Murphy to replace him in the HC squads.

Mike Sherry is a good prospect from the academy. Better than Fogarty.

Is he not injured as well though?

Sherry is in the squad for the weekend, I thought he was injured.

Was at UL gym today and had a peek at Munster training below in the sports hall.

Felix Jones was in crutches and looking forlorn. :(

Gert Smal and Les Kiss were present and were chatting with Paulie.

Also noticed that the session was being recorded, didn't know they did that.

Whatever about Munster excution of backline moves, the aggression and speed Munster are hitting the rucks this season must be largly due to Axel Foleys involvement. Compare it to the powderpuff team of the last few seasons that were smashed by Leinster at the breakdown and it looks like a different outfit.

Also Donnacha Ryan is starting to make a big impression. He should be pushing DOC to be Irelands second choice lock.

    From Munsterrugby.ie

All Blacks scrum coach Mike Cron is spending this week in Munster working with his Munster counterpart Paul McCarthy and the Munster Rugby Academy and sub Academy players.

Cron, who recently extended his contract with the NZRU until 2011 has been coaching since 1982 and been an NZRU resource coach since 2004.
As an NZRU resource coach he works with all New Zealand's national teams, including the All Blacks, Junior All Blacks, New Zealand Under 20, Black Ferns and New Zealand Sevens teams.

He also works with New Zealand's Super 14 teams, Air New Zealand Cup and Provincial Union academy teams, New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 17S, and is a tutor on the NZRU's High Performance coach development courses and the NZRU/Massey University Rugby Coaching Practicum.

He arrived in Ireland on Tuesday and spent Wednesday morning working with Paul McCarthy facilitating a scrum clinic for Academy, sub Academy and Under-age grade players in CIT. The main purpose of his visit is to impart his knowledge to the next generation of Munster rugby players.

The invitation was promoted by the Provincial Team Managment and fully supported by McCarthy who said. "I think it's a brilliant and progressive initiative that can only be of benefit for all those who will be involved with one of the best scrum technicians in world rugby. I applaud the PTM for their progressive thinking and far sightedness."

You are obsessed with Ryan. He's nowhere near as good as DOC, not even close.

He's closer than you think! :p Fast, aggressive, good support player/ball carrier, skillful for a lock and the faster the game is player the more it suits him.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't start in one of the big autumn games.

Against SA or NZ? Possibly, but Cullen and POC are injured.

He's all those things but he's well down the pecking order. He'll probably get into the squads because Kidney likes him but I'd have DOC,Touhy,EOD and Caldwell ahead of him based on their performances over the past 18 months. POC and Cullen to come back as well, its nice to have plenty of options.

I think himself and DOC will be the first choice pair for the AI's.

I can understand the first three, but Caldwell? Really? He went backwards last year, if anything.

Remember that Ryan spent the second half of last year injured and had come on in the 6 nations as a sub and did ok too. I think with a run of games for Munster we will get a better idea of how good he is but I like is aggression.

If he gets picked ahead of Tuohy there's something wrong with the world.

The only pair that should be referred to as first choice is POC and DOC. Seriously though, you seem to watch a different Ryan to the rest of us. He's down around 4th or 5th best lock in Ireland, nowhere near 2nd.

Are you going on Tuohy's present form or last year's form prior to his injury?
You do realise he hasn't played so far this season!
