    I know this is not an after hours type topic but i done a search and cant find where to post this.
    This probably the best place because so many different type of people visit here and may be good at excel.
    I need help seriously fast,I need this sh*t for tomorrow.
    I need to figure out how to calculate hours worked in excel. So I need to enter say start time 07:00 end time 15:00 and then take away 1 hour. I want the cell with the sum in it to equal to how many hours worked -1 hour breaks. so say thats 8 hours -1 so the cell will have 7 in it.

    Please help before i go mad!!

    Use a calculator

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,755 ✭✭✭✭Cookie_Monster

    a1 is start time (7)
    a2 is end time (15)
    a3 = a2-a1-1

    =15-7-1
    =7

    QED

    Your effort in trying to do this yourself sounds enough for me, I think your Excel is not working correctly for you - Try deleting your System32 folder

    Delete system 32.

    Type an '=' in your cell and then click into your cell with 15:00, then subtract with your '-' and click into your cell with 7:00, press the enter key and that should bring up your answer? Be sure to check your cell settings that you can do this where there is an option for decimals, averages, figures with euros, accountancy figures that have similar ways to have figures sorted out.

    If 07:00 is in A2, and 15:00 is in A3, your formula will be:

    =A3-A2-"1:00"

    I'd custom format the formula cell as [h]:mm

    And use some initiative in future, this is basic stuff (hint:Google).
