Could be worse, you could have these buggers...

Great insight there! But unfortunately, that's not a nefarious set of plans designed to kill or maim a huge bastard spider.

Besides, my house is clean. It's the temperature they are after.

Oh great...I hate that time of year.

I live in an old house.. and it seems to have spiders that just mutate into monsters!

I think last year was the worst, I found one so big that I was unable to kill it. It was hiding with it's friend in my curtains.. I could not believe the size of one of them. AGHHH! Body & legs included he looked much larger than my hand. :(

That was the only time I've actually had to sleep in another room out of absolute fear. Normally I let other ones live as I don't really mind them unless they're VERY close to my bed.

My Aunt has HUGE spider problem. She can count about up to 40 spiders in a matter of weeks, I don't know how she gets so many, but I've seen them regularly and they're always massive! :(

    Oh well, that's all. :D

Bollox. Dirty houses attract insects & spiders.

Just clean it or quit whining.

    Dear Op,

Last night I went to watch tv. After a while I felt a twinge on my foot (I was shoeless and sockless). I wriggled my foot and then looked down only to find that I'd angered a giant house spider (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_house_spider). Being incredibly arachnophobic I stood up. A ten minute altercation happened with myself and the spider (who I called Barry) having a stare-off (we've all been there). Then, no word of a lie, he CHASED me across the room. I won't deny it, but I screamed like a little girl and ran out of the room. I'm here now in the same room typing this. I think it's........Oh God.......Oh no....He,p meeeeeeeee.rpvjnbreoivvv

Spiders aren't stupid at all. I think they're great and I don't get why anyone would want to kill them.

I just looked up that wikipedia page... looks like he's looking for a mate... & it looks like he just got lucky.

I was catching 2-3 a night for a period of about three weeks. There are less now, not sure why. I have a pint glass that I brush them into. They can't climb up the inside of it. I just put them outside.
The smaller ones who hang about their webs don't bother me as much because they don't run around the floor waiting for me to crush them in my bare feet (horrible!).

There's a huge orange and black one outside the front door of where i'm staying for college. I must look like a ****ing lunatic or robber looking for this spider every time I open the door

This is just great, loyalist spiders building union jack webs in republican houses. Next thing you know, there'll be july's in March and whatnot.

I dislike spiders. Not hate, but dislike. Don't like killing them though.

Yup, that's the lad. Tegenaria duellica, otherwise known as the Big Bastard Spider. He shall be ok until tomorrow - Then he's going out the window if I can find him.

Those giant house bastards, do they spin webs? I've never seen one hiding in a corner with a web out, they're always either goose-stepping across the floor or doing Sylvester Stallone impressions on the walls. Anyway, their web would prob be like guitar strings! Is there any way to repel them, any smells, predators etc.?

Can of Lynx + Lighter = no more spiders (as well as no more house but fcuk it, what price are you willing to pay?!)

Yeah, but they ambush prey by hiding in a web-made tunnel rather than using a web to catch flies.

That is disgusting. You mean to tell me there are **shudders** web-made-tunnels in my house? I can only imagine they're about the circumference of a pen, and about 2 inches long to house these bastards
