Our local council has a once a year household rubbish collection.

You can put out on the footpath(yes we have wide footpaths in Oz) the equivalent of a 6 x 4 box trailer load of rubbish.

A couple of days ago I picked up a 3.00GHz pentium 4 PC tower, just needed a HDD and it works perfect.

Further down the road I picked up a swivel chair in good condition plus a desk lamp that only needed a light globe.

Didn't go 2 streets further and I found a clothes dryer and on inspection I saw the drive belt had come off the pulley, slipped belt back on pulley and it works fine and is in as new condition cosmetically.

Has anyone else found any good stuff on the side of the road?

I once found an Australian at the side of the road, but he kept yapping on about how brilliant things were in Oz, so I left him there.

Here in Canada you can furnish rooms for free walking around the night before and morning of bin day, it's great!

I don't go around looking through people's rubbish, so no, I've found nothing.
If you'd said knicker drawer though...then we'd be talking.

Should have thrown him on the barbie. I hear they're much nicer when they're cooked.

Found a 3 year old BMW 5 Series, keys in the ignition and all.
Gave the cops a right good run for their wages that night.

Here in Ireland you can get a new full set of clothes just walking around the streets. You'll find the odd trackie bottoms, scarves, jeans, gloves, knickers and what not.

Saves a few bob in recession times. Die Penneys, die.

    :pac:

I once found a lorry parked on one of the big wide footpaths that we have here in Ireland. I find it very useful for bringing home all of the computers, clothes driers, swivel chairs and knickers that I keep on finding. :D

How big is that trolley you're pushing?

On a side note I found a tape which could be used to listen to an ipod in the car. I've also found money on several occasions :). The things people throw away :pac:

They do the same in Barcelona and it's a great idea. It's perfectly understood and accepted that people may pick up anything left outside and it's part of the reason why it's disposed like that. Glad you have the money to always be paying for new furniture etc. but if I'm skint and someone is giving away a perfectly good piece of furniture/appliances, damn straight I'm gonna take it.

We found a really nice door in a skip once, it was dead handy cos one of the doors in our house was broken and this one matched in perfectly

Aren't there websites where people swap furniture and stuff for free? Instead of throwing out their chest of drawers or whatever, they just put an ad up and if you can collect it it's yours

An almost new USB 2.0 cable which is still in use for connecting my Lexmark X1150 to my laptop. Previously I only had one USB cable, so it allowed me to remain connected to the net when my USB modem also operates.

A friend of mine found a Tiffany bracelet once.
I never find anything good though.

This happens in New York too. Would love to see how bin men would react if you tried to leave out a sofa on the pavement here.

A mate ( for you OP ) once walked the streets of north London , found a house and lived in it for 2 years.
