Green camera symbol in google chat

I use google chat frequently and usually just have a green dot when I am available. Yesterday I noticed I had the camera symbol and do not know how to remove it. I have not installed a web cam so i dont know why it suddendly changed. Any suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

If you select the drop down for your status is there an option to switch it off? Never really bothered me since I didn't have a webcam installed.

Also the option might be in gmails settings (top right) or at the bottom, although I think that's just to turn chat off.
