I have taken to carrying a spare 5l can of petrol with me to get around on our service-less motorway network.

Initially my wife had misgivings about the dangers about carrying extra petrol in case of a rear-end crash but after a few anxious trips to Galway, Belfast and Waterford she has come around to my way of thinking after we had to use th can to get to known supply of petrol.

Many rural petrol stations have closed down since being bypassed by the new Motorways, many more close down early and supply outside the major cities with their 24 hour stations is no longer reliable especially when travelling at night.

I always fill up when going on any trip over 100 miles now since outside Dublin you cannot rely on an all day supply.

Was in the new service station, it's actually quite nice. It has a shop, a Costa, a Burger King and a buffet/restaurant. It's a lot like the ones in England.

I think the fact that it's overdue by about 20 years makes it Irish.

Nope, was in a foul mood because I realised I left my handbag in Dublin, so we had to turn back and get it:mad:

The country's first motorway service area opened at Lusk on the M1 in Co Dublin today."

    Lies!

I was there on Tuesday evening.

Most other countries build these service stations at the same time as the motorway, cos it's, you know, logical?

Front page news my eye. Front page news on the incompetence of planners more like.

This is great news allows me to continue to slag this country off... with laughable stuff like this no one has a good response!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 991 ✭✭✭SuperGrover

Oh, FFS, it's a bleedin' garage on the side of a road. To be embarrassed or otherwise emotionally inflamed by it's existence, or lack of heretofore, is laughable.

Have a look at some of the metal covers protecting wires or whatever on footpaths. A lot of them still say P&T on them. Posts and Telegraphs...backwards as fúck...

Would you prefer that some tosser somewhere had authorised a purchase and installation order for some shiny, new ones at a cost of €75M and then gone ove budget by €20M!!

If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

    Jesus Christ

Every post you see here is done by telegraph. It takes ages to post something, let alone quote like I just did.

And if we want to start a new "thread" it takes a week

We kind of have them already although they're called mobile toilets i.e. when you're on a bus, you just open the door as it's moving and piss away!
