    Me!

    I left college in 2004 and struggled to get a job straight away.
    You try getting a summer job in Galway which has a huge proportion of students and young people.
    Small city, competing with tens of thousands.

    Nine weeks later I had a job. lol, I got two job offers in the same week.

    And paid that money back many, many times over in PRSI

    So OP, am I scum? :(

    Same thread to say same fcuking thing. There are people on the Dole who don't want to work. Side effect of a program that in theory [and likely] helps more people than it 'Enables'. News here? No. Whats on telly?

    IT graduates from about 2001
    I tried to be one for a bit but found the application process for assist too depressing, so I lived off tesco value tuna tesco value pasta and tesco value tinned tomatoes mainly for a while instead.

    I was on the dole for 6 months in 2005. Needed some time out from working for years and it really was a great rest. Did some travelling across Europe/Morocco on my motorbike for a couple of months well needed headspace.:) Some of the heads down the social office was unreal the few times i signed on. Got talking to some bloke who was 39 years old and had'nt worked a day in his life since he left school at 15.:pac:

    I think 150,000 is a manageable figure and nothing to get alarmed about. There are 3 times more people on it now, yet the country is 10 times more fúcked.

    The majority would have been between jobs looking for work after a contract ended Within a short period of time the majority would have been working again. The figure for long term unemployed would have been much lower.

    150,000????? was it not 40,000:confused: I thought I heard it was 40k unemployed during the boom and that those people were unemployable as they were either junkies or on disability!! Im sure it was 40,000:confused:
