I have all me movies as .MKV files on my HDD including Avatar and Transformers in 1080p so will be interesting to see if it can play them back! I do hope it can!! Will totally be the icing on the cake :-)

I've attached a list of supported formats of the 40" set, which is shamelessly lifted from the user manual that can be downloaded here.

There are also two firmware updates available here. Might be of use to someone/anyone/noone.

Truth accepted. I'm a sucker for cantilevered designs, though. :)

I also looked at this stand, which says it will work up to 42", but I don't see any reason why a 46" wouldn't work on it also.

Would probably shatter the glass or topple over. If you do it, please put on youtube!

Was hoping there might be HD Audio passthru, but what do you expect for €550! ;)

For surround sound? I am connecting mine to a Sony Home Theater via HDMI, I assume the audio will be passed through that way?

Can't see why. The TV weighs less than 25kg, and the stand can handle up to 80kg.

    Yeah, it will.

But I'm ripping my bluray collection losslessly (both audio and video), and I'm looking for a way to play the rips through my amp. The list of audio compatability doesn't show either DTS-MA or Dolby TrueHD, or mention passthrough, so I can only assume that it can't handle the HD audio.

Not a big deal though. I know I'm gonna have to buy a Popcorn Hour. I'm just trying to delay the inevitable!

Can't wait to get my hands on the set though. Everything bar the bd rips should work a treat!

Aye, it'd be fine. A 46" LCD would probably be as heavy if not lighter than a 42" plasma.

As long as you don't mind the TV overhanging the stand.

TV arrived today, and got it up and running while ago.

Watching Tropic Thunder on Bluray at the minute, and it looks spot on using Movie setting. Colours seems fairly accurate, but I must have a play with the settings in the morning.
There doesn't appear to be any judder when on 1080/24p. Haven't watch standard or HD tv yet. Champions League this evening should be a good test.
Sound from it is good too, considering the size of the frame.
Thank God there's no bleeding or banding that I can see, and blacks are nice and inky.

So fair play once again to the OP.

If anyone has any settings recommendations, I'd like to hear them.

Oh yeah, if anyone is looking for the code for you Sky remote to work the tv, 0646 worked for me first time.

    Me too

Got mine mad early this morning, they were supposed to be delivering around 12.00! Anyhow, all good!

Plugged in rabbit ears for the hell of it and it picked up 16 digital channels including radion with them and the analogue ones too. Now signal is not perfect and it gets blocky from time to time but very impressed it picked them up at all! Could not see TV3 though? Are they broadcasting in Digital? RTE, TG4 and all the rest there though? Will go get a proper digital tuner soon....TV3 was there under analogue but unwatchable...

Hooked up my media streamer and played first few mins of Avatar....WOW....was blown away. Have it in 1080p, no stutter...flawless! Gonna watch Iron Man 2 tonight, can't wait! Did not change any settings at all yet but will tinker later!

BIG BIG thank you to OP....man I LOVE boards.ie!

    Cheers,
    M

Don't take that as gospel. I got a call from them at 1 o'clock telling me they'd be up by 2. Got no call giving me a delivery date.
So yours might show up at anytime, but with a phone call giving you an hours notice.

Shouldn't be a problem, I work from home so I'm pretty much always here. Fingers crossed...

To all those looking for picture settings, David Mackenzie, a reviewer from HDTVTest, recommended the ones below in the comments section of the Samsung LE32C530 review and they look great.

    Calibration settings:
Backlight – according to your room.
    Contrast: 90
    Brightness: 44
    Colour: 43
    Tint: G53/R47
    Sharpness: 0 for HD

All other features/”enhancers” off. Colour Space: Auto.
Leave the Greyscale/White Balance settings at their defaults. We only made very minor adjustments for this individual panel.

The above settings were carried out in "Movie" mode.

Did he say anything about what preset he used as a starting point?

Edit: Just noticed he started with Movie mode.

Mine got delivered earlier this morning but was busy with paperwork most of the day only got round to unpacking it and setting it up in the last hour. Its fecking massive :D. Must start messing about wit the settings to get the optimal picture settings.

Its on its stand at the moment waiting for delivery of a low profile wall mount from the web.

As a matter of interest, what are the dimensions of the stand?

Guys what's the difference between an external hard drive and a media player? Would a hdd or laptop work with these?

If you have an external hard drive or USB stick, I think you can stick that in the TV's USB slot. The TV has a built-in media player that can play video files from the USB slot.

You could also, instead of getting the built-in media player to play the files, get your TV to act as a monitor for your laptop by hooking it up via VGA or a DVI-HDMI cable, and show the movie that way.

TV3 are not broadcasting on the digital platform yet - they were there for a short time when the trials were on.

Hopefully, this will change whenever the official launch is.
