Rob, its forty at most. You just walk down the rank and tell the nice Armenian guy that the nice Indian guy behind you offered to take you for 45 or whatever. This is when the haggling begins.

The supply of taxis outweighs demand on most week nights ever since deregulation and the market hasn't fully adjusted yet.

    Off-topic Ricky Gervais misquote;
"Ever see that advert that asks 'wanna know the price of an illegal taxi? just ask a rape victim. This advert got me in alot of trouble and do not suggest following its advice"

Applying finishing touches to handbook. It's good. Possibly the best ever.

BIG shout out to Keith Broni and Kellie Fagan (kellief here) for helping out at the crunch time. Broni is here with me now till dawn working on it. The deadline got brought forward by a few days and, without their help, it couldn't happen. Big shout out, guys. P.s enjoy your complimentary pizzas.

we could spend like the whole year going around getting discounts from every store known to man, and each student guide comes with like a tesco clubcard, supervalu rewards card, dunnes clubcard, and every other loyalty card known to mankind!! =D

would it be an idea to like try and establish like a maynooth student discount?? widespread through every place in town?? like a town voucher, but it gives nuim students discounts everywhere in maynooth?! that would be EPIC!! :D

    GOOD NEWS!

USI will be unveiling their national discount card by next year, which will include loads of Maynooth specific discounts, as well as major national chains - Topshop, M&S etc.

    Should be fun

Oh, and on the taxi fare thing, the USI / Maynooth SU Niterider will be starting up in the next few weeks - €5 from town to Maynooth at 3am, and here's the best bit... It runs during the week!

Any idea how much it would cost for a taxi from Blanchardstown to Maynooth on a Wednesday night? Preferably one of the people-carrier ones!

Costs me €30 to get home from maynooth to blanch in a regular taxi so probably more expensive with more people. If you go to any of the maynooth taxi companies they generally have fixed fares for trips like that whereas taxis that come up from dublin will put the meter on and it'll cost you more. Arrange a set price before you get in the taxi.

More expensive with more people yeah, but it'd be cheaper for each person after splitting the cost surely?

That's not as bad as I thought it'd be! We found out Captain America's in Blanch have a karaoke night every Wednesday. Entry is free and pints and cocktails are €3!

Anywhere with karaoke has my vote!

I'm not so keen on the karaoke part but my God the burgers are amazing and happy hour is everyday from 5-9. Best four hours ever.

Hey I was just wondering about the Freshers Ball that's on next week. Is it like a proper ball where everyone gets properly dolled up or is it more casual where you just wear normal going out kind of clothes?

Just wondering because I'm heading up to Maynooth on Wednesday and might not be coming home this weekend. I have some nice dresses with me that aren't too dressy, will that be alright? :/

Good question! And it's one I meant to ask before but forgot totally about. But yeah, could anyone give us a hand with this ?

I'm rather looking forward to this actually. Although the word ball is a bit confusing when it comes to dress code! :P

I'm looking forward to everything actually! I'm in registration/orientation on Thursday and Friday, and I can't wait to meet people in my course and get in and do everything :D Haha. And yeah I'd say the word ball has confused others as well in the past :p Although I still like the way it's called a ball haha.
What exactly happens at this casual ball then ?

I guess there's music and people dance and have the odd non-alcoholic beverage. Just like every other night out!

Yeah I'm looking forward to everything too, I just can't wait to get started! I'm in on Thursday and Friday too!
